I assume thats never been used or registered before ^^

is there any other tests thatll benchmark the HDs and entire system?
You can Benchmark the drives with:-
    HdTach or
    HDtune

For keeping an eye on your drives, I highly recommend:-
    HDSentinel

For Testing everything at once, such as CPU, Memory and Graphics I recommend:-
    X: Terran Conflict Rolling Demo
EGOSOFT Downloads X: Terran Conflict Demos

You can check the HD in windows with:-
    HdSentinel
    WD Diagnostics for windows
Seagate Seatools for windows (will work with your drives)

Also for checking at file level:-
This will take a while and will want to reboot the PC for the system drive, ie C: drive

    1) Enter CMD in startsearch box in Vista, ie to get Dos prompt
    2) Enter in Dos prompt chkdsk c: /r /v
v switch will allow chkdsk to report any cleanup messages. Although it's more useful to see when you are testing any drive bar the system drive, as you can't easily see the cleanup messages when checkdisk does it's bootup test.

As far as i know (or can remember), during Vista's initial setup check prior to installation, it checks to see if AHCI has been enabled in the bios. If it has, it then loads the generic Microsoft AHCI driver and all is well.
If AHCI isn't enabled in the bios, then it doesn't load the generic AHCI driver.

If though you have enabled it, you may if you prefer replace (essentially overwrite) the MS generic ahci driver with an Intel one (Intel Matrix Storage Driver) - all whilst in windows.

Now if you can enable AHCI in the bios on a non enabled AHCI Vista install and then install the Intel ahci driver (in windows) is another matter. I honestly don't know as i haven't tried it. You'll no doubt find the info on the net though.

Just another note for those reading who may be XP users. XP and ahci and the way it's setup/changed/altered compared to Vista is different.
