    Default Intel ICH10R/DO and RAID How many drives?

    ---UPDATE---The ICH10R/DO is for digital office. http://www.intel.com/assets/PDF/datasheet/319973.pdf
    When ICH10R is set up as Raid you cannot use SATA/DVD Drives or SATA/PATA partitioned Hard Drives on it. You can however RAID0/1/5/10 and AHCI on it, You would want to use another SATA controller for your PATA/SATA Drives and SATA/DVD Drives.

    Actually you can have both RAID and non-RAID disks on the ICHxR's simultaneously. The non-RAID disks will operate in the AHCI mode.

    Not true. I have been running a 4 disk RAID array along with non-RAID disks on the ICHxR's for years. PATA is not supported by the ICHxR's.

    Edit: looks like the op has removed the post I responded to.

    It actually is, speaking from experience.

    Edit: Issues addressed in your wiki link, applies only when non-AHCI system disk (one containing the OS) is run in AHCI mode. If that is the problem you're referring to, there are fixes for that. For XP: http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.php?t=444831 and for Vista: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976. For all non-OS disks, they work fine in both AHCI and non-AHCI envirnment.

    OK! I can SATA/AHCI/IDE and SATA/AHCI/RAID but if I want to RAID and use my SATA/PATA drive and SATA DVD drive, it would be much simpler to put them on another SATA controller, and forget about the AHCI and Vista. This way I also do not have the problems that the AHCI causes when swithching hard drives and different operating systems.
    I am going to leave the AHCI alone. It is not for my desktop. http://www.intel.com/technology/serialata/ahci.htm
    Thats a good article though Thanks

    I have NON RAID SATA Hard (Storage, and or a second RAID) drives and CD Drives connected to my ICH10R, and have in the past on previous chipsets as well with no issues at all.

    The additional drives that are not a part of your RAID Array will just show up as NON RAID Members is all as you can see in these images (All connected to ICH10R W/ Dual RAID's setup (3x ST3250410AS) + 1 NON RAID Storage Drive (ST3500320AS) + 1 Asus DVD Drive) >>>

    Are you unclear on whether you can or not, or are you trying to say something else? I am not sure here with the deleted comments and such. If you do need some help with your setup let us know, we can help. And if you do, please don't delete your comments, although I can read them others cannot and maybe they could have answered you already.

    I don't know how you can make it any clearer :>) It's clear now and thanks for the information.

    Googling does show that not all SATA DVD drives "have behaved" in AHCI mode, although that is more insufficient compatibility than intentional lack of it. Since DVD drives do not make use of AHCI features, they just have to communicate with the AHCI controller.

    Btw, there is no "PATA/SATA formatted" HDD that would be different from "AHCI formatted". It is just the language used by OS and controller that is different between IDE and AHCI, not the content of the disk. If the format would differ, then one could not enable/disable AHCI on an existing setup.

    @Lsdmeasap: Fancy setup of LUNs.
