Default e8500 @4.3Ghz not orthos stable yet?

My stepping is E0 so keep that in mind when looking at the low vcore. I test orthos and only get about 1 min with FTT 7-8 then orthos stop, i'm still testing but here are my bios. Please make suggestions so i can get stable for 24/hr use thank you :)

I'm not surprised in the slightest that it fails Orthos right away. There's no way on earth you're going to get it stable with CPU termination, PLL, MCH core and MCH ref on auto. You could very well need a little more Vcore too. It's an E0, but at 4.3GHz, don't expect to be able to keep Vcore super low.

Something much more realistic to try, then tune:

    Code:
Table removed. Forum is formatting and editing my post on its own!
A note on adjusting MCH ref: It scales as a % of CPU Termination. Set CPU term manually to 1.2V, then set MCH ref to 0.720V. After setting MCH ref, set CPU Term back up. If these settings fail, the first thing I would do would be to try values either side of 0.720 MCH ref. IE, set CPU Term to 1.2 again and try MCH ref = 0.700V and 0.740V.

Do not, ever disable Thermal Monitor functionality. If there is a failed CPU fan, or you accidentally set the wrong CPU voltage, this function could save your CPU from going pop. Sounds rare, but it can happen. notice that when keying in values for voltages with the number keys, that if you type a voltage that can't be set (eg you type 1.272V, rather than the selectable 1.275V) and hit enter, it'll default for the maximum voltage the board allows. Not good!

ok i ran into a few problems. first a wierd auto change from my bios... to explain.
    when i set
    Perfromance Enhance [standard]
    Extreme Mem Profile (XMP) [disabled]
it changes my ram timings to
    5
    7
    7
    20
but i can still manually set to 5-5-5-15 ... odd.

    instead i set
    Performance Enhance [Turbo]
Extreme Mem Profile (XMP) [Profile 1]
it then changes default ram timings to
    5
    5
    5
    15
but i can still manually set to 5-5-5-15

also i did as you said and first set CPU TERM 1.200v then MCH REF 0.720 then CPU TERM Auto but i get a massive MCH REF jump of 0.850. When i did the process again with MCF ref 7.40 it just kept getting higher. Although when i set MCH ref to 0.540 then CPU TERM to auto, it scaled MCH ref to 730. I ran orthos and attached the file of the error. I am commited to getting this sucker stable so bare with me Psycho

Don't set such a low MCH ref. Set it as said, to 0.720 @ 1.2Vtt. It will get higher when you set VTT more than 1.2V, it scales with it on a % basis. The 0.85 or what ever it sets is fine. I'm actually surprised it booted at all at the low MCH ref you set. that's too low, way too low.

Also don't worry about the Auto (left numbers) settings being 5-7-7-20. Disable XMP, it's crap. Set 5-5-5-15 manually, XMP disabled.

ok the good news is we are getting some stability, the bad news is not quite there yet. i upped the vcore a little and got more orthos time. see attachment. should i bump up the mch core? btw these settings are with
    Performance Enhance [standard]
    Extreme Mem Profile [disabled]

    i think with
    Performance Enhance [Turbo]
    Extreme Mem Profile [disabled]
i get better stability and my ram timings auto to
    5-5-5-15.

cancel my last post. it seems
    Performance Enhance [standard]
    Extreme Mem Profile [disabled]
gets me further in orthos although it changes my
    chan a and b
static tread val from default 11 to 9 but i still set manually to 9 not sure if that makes a diff. but just thought i would give the extra details.

VTT is too high. You shouldn't use more than 1.4V, and even that high I don't think it's necessary. Try changing that to 1.24V-1.32V and test each one for stabillity.

I hope you kept running Orthos. One hour is a good start, but a long way from declaring that you are stable. I had 8hrs of Prime, 30 runs of Intel Burn Test, several runs of 3D Mark Vantage and 06, and it would still freeze up in Far Cry 2. Remember, every time it locks, and especially if it crashes, errors are written to the Hard Drive. Not long before your install starts to go south. In addition, errors can be written to your hard drive even without crashing or freezing if stability is not 100%. "It is stable enough for me" = "I like doing complete installs on a frequent basis"
