Well E8500 is not Q9550 and DDR-800 is not DRR-1066.
BTW what board are we talking about and what FSB?

Bofore playing, I would start with no leaving any of the timings on auto except the weird ones in Channel Timings and Channel Driving.
The boared seem to adjust things when the FSB does not match the native CPU FSB.
And don't save on forum paper, post your settings.

    Hi NimrodAus,
Just fell over your post, and read it right through -lots of interesting stuff!
Sounds a great build (ok, I'm not -super experienced, but I also did a LOT of research before my new build)

...you helped me out a few days back when I fried my mobo; thanks for your support!
my new rig up & running now, stable on stock, but I have no clue where to start with OC'ing...but researching...

I've got 8G G-Skill PI Blacks, 800Mhz, and it's very stable; I know you've gone for faster ram, but the brand has loads of good things said about it.

Anyway, hope your new build goes great, will drop in now & then to keep up!
-oh yeah, suppliers/deliveries in UK just as bad...creates killer tension while you have to wait.

Yes I know The E8500 is not the Q9550 and whatever. Im just saying I had this X48-DS5 Board (forget about EP45-DS3 for now) running 400Mhz FSB with 800Mhz Ram Stable as shi.t Then All I changed was the CPU and its not stable. Even at an underclocked speed. of 400X7 even with the old 800mhz ram. Ive tried 1066ram which im now using check sig for build. So basically i think Ive got a bit of a lemon of a Q9550 that only likes stock stuff maybe. Thats why Im trying to nut out wtf is going on.

GO BACK A PAGE OR TWO FOR MIT SETTINGS. Ive done what you say. Nothing is on AUTO except the advance memory timings and stuff like you say.

Hey mate. Im glad you have gotten everything running sweet. Ill swing by and see if there is any suggestions to be had on overclocking. Yeah the G.Skill ram is said to be good. Its working for me @ a very good temp.
Yeah talk about killer tension. I hate the wait. But I have all the good stuff now.

Just Ignore the thread title I dont know how to change it. Check Sig for new build specs.

Glad all the good stuff's arrived!
great you got a Lian Li case, mine was a dream to work with, 'specially since I've only ever worked on no-name cases/Dell/HP etc, when mending/upgrading friends' machines. Yeeeach.
Damn good at cooling as well!

    Enjoy building (playing???)!

Gotta go get some sleep now, it's early hours here in UK; will drop in later tomorrow.

Ah ok i think I get the picture.
I think I have seen some posts about the need to use a not "round" FSB soeeds , 399 or 401 instead of 400, have you tried playing with that?

Yeah the Lian Li PC-7F is a nice case. It looks really nice and the back of it is nice to with all the PCI slot covers vented. Once I put the Ultra Low noise adaptor on the Rear case fan its near silent now. Its an awesome case for Cable management. I've spent more time perfecting and making all the cables hidden and tidy than anything else.

Cant say I've hurd of that. I have seen some stuff about when running real hight like 500+mhz FSB to set your PCI-E Frequency to 102 or 101 or something.

UPDATE: I went back to the MIT and Set all the Advanced timmings manually as they are in the SPD which has changed back to 1066 again?? anyway upped the Vcore and FSB to 400 and also some less tight timmings on the ram eg. 5-7-7-20 and it errors out all four threads in Prime 95 within seconds? At least its not freezing the computer but WTF?
