I have been doing a little bit of graphics tweaking today and discovered that the refresh rate for my monitor was set @ 60Hz not 75Hz which its capable of. So I have changed that and force disabled V-Sync and Force Enabled Tripple buffering and that seems to have free'd up a fair few more frames in most games now. Havent really done any overclocking tweaking yet just been fooling around on and off all day.

You can safely disable tripple buffering, as it's only of use when Vsync is on. If you enabled Triple Buffering in CCC, it only works on OpenGL games, as for DirectX/Direct3D to be triple buffered, it has to be an option set by the developer in game (unless you use D3DOverrider).

Simply by disabling Vsync you may have bought yourself a decent rise in FPS. You may want to set the monitor back to 60Hz though. A higher input refresh will also give more tearing on games running at a lower FPS, and if using Vsync, keeping the frame rate at 75FPS, if it struggled at 60, will be impossible.

Crossfire is highly game dependant. You'll almost certainly get more than a 30% increase, dependant on res and the game you're running.

FEAR 2 scales close to 100% with 2 4850's, Grid to about 80% more, where as Crysis picks up by less than 25%, sometimes by just ~8 FPS. A 4890 doesn't play Crysis too well either. Even two GTX 295's can't keep it at 60 FPS on max. Crysis has a dog of an engine, and to get it shifting we need a radical redesign in GPU architecture. Maybe the next gen of DX11 cards will do a better job at it.

I have not experenced any tearing in anygame yet so untill its a problem ill just leave it how it is.

Ok well I really want to do something with my graphics card but Im just not sure what. Should I crossfire 2 X HD4850's or get a HD4890. Obviously getting another HD4850 will be the cheaper options but im not sure. How hard is it to set up? I have no crossfire "cable" thingy would the other Retail card I buy come with all I need. I have seen pictures and it looks like there are 2 Crossfire thingys needed? Were would I get them from? What are the downside of Crossfire?

Ok so im a Crossfire Knob. i know nothing. were do you put your monitor plug? If someone knows a good how to guide that would be kewl.

EDIT: Well Now Im up in arms again as Ive just read that ARMA2 doesnt even support Crossfire. I am again leaning towards the HD4890 Vapour X.

Waste of money IMO for the extra performance you'd get. 7-10 FPS would be the most improvement you'll see. The game just runs like a dog.

To crossfire two cards, all you need to do is place them both in and use one Crossfire bridge. Two aren't needed. The ones using two are either doing it for aesthetics or are under the delusion that two connectors = double the bandwidth. You only need two bridges if you're connecting three cards.

It would be up to the driver to implement Crossfire, not the game, so I'm not surprised that it's not working with the game yet. There hasn't been a Catalyst release since the game was released. You can force crossfire by re-naming the game executable to "AFR-FriendlyD3D.EXE" but this only gives generic support, and there's no fine tuning for the specific game.

By leaving triple buffering on you may be using way moer (1/3 more) GPU RAM and bandwidth than is really needed which may make frame rates drop. As said though, if you only enabled it in CCC it only works on OpenGL based games (Doom, Quake 4 etc).

**EDIT** Crossfire is enabled in Catalyst 9.7 RC3: http://www.tacticalgamer.com/armed-a...now-arma2.html

Well I guess Im just going to bite the bullet and get a Second HD4850 on the way. Hey Psycho how does that Yate Loon 120mm Fan go is it quiet?

Yeah I was aware that the Crossfire thing was a Driver dependant issue. But looks like its all goodly now.

If temps are going to be a problem I was also looking at the Zalman VF1000 http://www.zalman.co.kr/ENG/product/...ad.asp?idx=276 to do some cooling. But I think If I put the GPU fans to 30% is shouldnt be an issue.

UPDATE:::::: Second HD4850 is on the way

EDIT: Ok Im not looking towars replacing my old yet trusty Dell Keyboard and Optical mouse. I do have the Logitech LX310 Cordless Desktop http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/ke.../2963&cl=au,en which is pretty good. I have never had the Cordless stop working on me while gaming. I was wondering if you guys think that is a good one to get another one for the other computer of should I get a "Gaming" Keyboard. The only ones Ive found i like is the Razor brand but from reading the revies on newegg they are not as good as I would have hoped for the price. So if any of you know of any good keyboard's and mice I'd like to know.

Super EDIT: Im also taking nominations for 22-24in Monitors Please. I like Samsung. Tell me if there is better. And Please Before anyone suggest the Ultrasharp Dell 24in yes I know its the ducks nuts but I dont have $900 Bucks to spend on a monitor. Lets say MAXXXXXXX $400.

For a 22" 1680x1050 get a Dell Ultra Sharp 2209WA E-IPS. They're relatively cheap (200, $400) and the image quality is awesome. Even though it's an IPS panel, screen lag isn't noticeable.

For 24" screens, expect to pay a lot more for a decent one. You're talking around 380 to 450 ($765-$900). You might be able to save a little by going for a 1920x1080 display of that size, but it's not the best PC monitor resolution. I find viewing web pages a little annoying on a 1080 monitor, as that kind of stuff really does benefit from the extra screen height of a 16:10 aspect ratio.
