OK Well Crossfire setup is in and working. Just fired up crysis and before I was getting maybe 25 Frames if I was lucky now with the new 9.7 WHQL driver and crossfire Im gettting an average of 45-50 Frames. Which is sweet. Has made SFA difference to ArmA 2 but I havent tried the -win=XP parameter in the game which may be the problem. A little noisy the new fan is but its ok. Its bloody good though it keeps the chip cool as Idles at 45 Load at 55. The first card is not throttling back at all and the second is only throttling back after gaming. I will have to do some research on this topic. But all in all im pretty happy. Oh one other thing thats a bit annoying. I have absolutly no screen display (or input) until windows welcome screen is up in 7. No trippy little swirly windows or BIOS @ all. I hope there is a way to fix this????? I had to also turn my PSU over so the fan is up which isnt a bad thing at all and now my HOT HD4850 has a brilliant 140mm Exhaust fan for it which is working sweet.

    Looking good!

If you want to quiten down the MSI 4850 I would get an Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 Rev.2 and maybe strap a low RPM fan with some zip ties onto it. You'll just need to move the MSI card to the bottom slot.

Well Crossfire hasnt made much difference In ArmA2 at all. Its made the intro menu and all that super sweet sitting hard up on 60FPS were before it was only in the 30's but the game may have gained like 2 or 3 frames but still drops down to 16ish breifly in heavy forest when turning and shooting people. Oh well its playable and its more a constand 25frames now it seems a bit smother but oh well. It is a dog of a game engine, Its a real pitty the bloody game is awesome.

@Nickel, Thanks. I think im going to live with the slight elevation in noise for now. Its still quieter than my Dell which ive been using for the past 3 years so Im happy. Im tempted to get another MSI card and piss that HOT little REference one off to the other comp with the 8800GT in it. Im going to stock myself though because A) My wife would seriously kill me B) It would be a messy Death C) I dont realllllly need to.

My Wife doesnt know I got this second HD4850 so yeah. I think I might just leave the building for a bit and just enjoy what ive got. What started as a simple CPU Upgrade has turned into a complete new system build + Old system rebuild. lol. Im just going to play for a bit.

EDIT: For some reason my MSI card Cannot be down clocked to match the Stock card. Its sitting on 640Mhz and the slider starts at 640 on that card. Wierd?

SUPER EDIT: Well heres on for the book. After Googling most of the night trying to Optimize ArmA2 tried all the tricks but the only one that actually bumped frame rates was to rename the ArmA2.exe to Fear2.exe and bang Frames galour. Only problem is it makes the game look ****, its way to dark and washed out and theres not enough adjustment to make it Likeable. But boy its smooth dammit. :-(

If re-naming to fear2.exe gives you a performance increase trhen there is hope. It still needs driver tweaking by the sound of it.

My recommendation is to fill in a Catalyst issue form, stating little gain in ArmA2 in CF until renaming the exe. After renaming, also state it looks bad. I'll do the same, so that's at least two people filling out an issue. I'm sure there will be more that do it too.

I think the MSI card has a different clock range set in its BIOS. Mine is 600-800 which gives me freedom to under and ovewr clock. Yours no doubt starts at 640.

    Does re-naming ArmA2 to AFR-friendlyd3d.exe help?

@ Psycho, were would I find the form to fill out. I had a look but couldnt find anything like that.

As for the MSI card being set differently in the BIOS how is this going to effect my other card that is running 625 and the MSI is 640. The MSI Does not throttle back at all however IDLE temps are super low 45c and load is only 55c so yeah. The poor little "Dell" card idles 55ish load 80ish. Poor little card. Hopefully the PSU sucking hard right below it will help. Did really look. It throttles back after gaming but now when windows loads. I might put that in the form to. Also how much the new CCC Sucks compared to the old one. The way its layed out is crap. I will try your renaming name tonight. I think I may have worked out why I have no display untill windows. I had set in the BIOS First Boot PEG2 so Ill try the monitor in that card and change it to PEG.

    Default Re: New Build GA-EP45-DS3 + Q9550

UPDATE: Ok. Firstly, After changing the First Boot to PEG in the BIOS I now have BIOS and Boot screens again on my main display. Second, for some reason I can not get anything to work on my other display on any other of the 4 ports except the top first one. Third, did I mention How much the new CCC Sucks balls. Its so terrible layed out its not funny. Took like a million clicks to reset the color again, Dont ask but I have had this problem ever since the day I went to vista and I think from googling its something to do with my dell screen, its happend on NVIDIA and ATI card but Sometimes I can boot it up and the mouse curser is super bright white but the rest it dull. SO I reset the color settings on the card to defult and its all good. Annoying? Yes a little. It wierd it doesnt do it for ages then one day it does it a couple of times. Not a major issue.

ArmA2 is now working at what I believe is going to be the best You can get out of the damm game. 60FPS in the open 20FPS in super heavy forest and it looks good and proper using ArmA2.exe executable. I tried what you suggested Pyscho and that was the worst preformance one yet :-( so I tweaked a little more and went in to the .cfg and messed a bit and using -cpuCount=4 seens to work pretty good. Now Let the Patches roll in.

You can leave feedback here: Catalyst Crew Feedback Program .

It sounds like you're experiencing the old PowerPlay bug, where the second card only throttles after you launch full screen 3D, then quit.

With the MSI having a higher clock range set in its BIOS, it's unable to match the Dell card, so just sets itself as low as it can, which happens to also be the default speed. You could edit the BIOS or if you're sure the cards are exactly identical (both reference designs) and have the same component layout, you could flash the Dell BIOS to the MSI card.

By the way you describe FEAR2.exe giving good performance in ArmA but looking crap, it may well be that the developers need to work on their side of getting CF working. It is mainly drivers but they do have to do some work to get it going too.

Na I know the MSI Card is completely different. I wouldnt flash any BIOS's I dont think. its pretty clear that its really ArmA2 that is at fault. You can turn all the Graphics to crap lile 640X480 and still cant get more then 25 frame in the heavy forest so there needs to be some serious optimization happening. Hopefully with the next big patch. Please please. The Form at ATI seems to be over it wont let me submit anything.
