I'm downloading the double pilot episode of Warehouse 13 now. If I like it I'll definitely play catch up with the rest of the series so far. Any idea how many are planned in this run? It's usually between 18 and 24 episodes per season I think.

I got both my replacement 4850 AND my Dell UltraSharp today and I couldn't be more pleased. You know when you get that real "YESSSSSS!!!" kind of frrling, like you really made the right choice and are sinfully proud of such a materialistic thing? I got that for sure at the moment. I can't get over not just how good this monitor is, but how it makes me realise my old 20" AOC was utter sh1t. I mean total and utter garbage! I KNEW there was some sort of blury, ghosting thing going on with it in fast moving gaming scenes and switching to this 2209WAf proves it. I can now focus on the moving object in a scene with ease. I thought all along that my eyes were getting worse and I needed some new goggles, but they're fine, it was my "window to the PC" that was the problem. Never under estimate a monitor when aiming for the ultimate PC experience!

NimrodAUS, you're totally right about the brightness and contrast being slightly too high for a darkened room. I have mine currently on 60/60 and they will be tuned when I get it calibrated. My fathers friend installs home theatre systems for a living and has all kinds of weird and wonderful calibration tools and software. Apparently I need to be there too to get the fine tuning right, something about a true calibration may look odd due to people being used to over-saturated images or something. He says he can get it looking perfect to me, which is what counts I suppose.

The new 4850 was, as expected, a "B-Grade" model, which just means a re-conditioned return, direct from ASUS, so it should be fine. I don't trust their mobo's but their GFX cards are fine and dandy. After cleaning off the slight dust build up on the PCB and around the RAM chips and cleaning them with a rubber (an eraser for my American friends, NOT a condom! ) I popped on the RAM and MOSFET heat sinks, layered an atom-thin amount of MX-2 (I hate spreading AS5, too stiff and gloopy) and installed the Scythe Musashi without problems.

I have noticed, and I don't know if it's 100% normal, I presume so, but the primary card with the monitor attached runs about 8c hotter now than before and both cards also run ~10c hotter than when in a single GPU config. That means the primary is around 18c hotter at idle with an 18-19c ambient. Weird indeed. I have also had a couple of crashes in Vantage and Call of Duty 2. I put these down to a mix of over heating and the replacement card not liking 750 core. It's an older revision compared to the newer one, so I'll settle at 700 per core and mod both to run the same BIOS with max GPU volts.

I will likely post a couple of pictures later on of both the inside of the case and a benchie or two with CrossFire in action. You will have to excuse the messy wiring job though, I'm in desperate need of some fan extension cables to be able to route the wires. I was thinking of trying to get them under the motherboard, as they'll fit without issue. It'll be a SOB if I need to remove a card but I don't intend to mess with it after I get the case perfect again.

Side note: Sorry if there's a couple of spelling mistakes in this post. WTB a BRITISH English dictionary for Google Chrome, or at least some way of telling it that there's a "u" in colour, it's "cheque" not "check" and that there's no such thing as "aluminum".

    Cool.

It looks like C|F 4850's have an edge using the Performance pre-set. Likely when large amounts of AA and huge textures are added at higher res, the 280 will pull away, due to over twice the RAM bandwidth.

Hmm Maybe I should have a go with vantage. Then again Maybe i shouldnt. I know I will be disapointed.

Psycho I cant believe that you got your monitor so quick. I guess the UK is about half 1/4 the size of my State but still. Damm. Glad your happy with it. Glad you got your CF happening now with no dramas. As for the heat thing. Do your cards throttle. Im assuming they dont since you have overclocked and modded the BIOS?

Googling around I see lots of ppls hit the wall with Q9550, around 3.6~3.8, and that includes watercooled. Lucky ones get 4.00GHz, seems from brief lookaround. Seems to moi that e8500 is a better overclocking chip.

Horrible thought, u may have to lower speed to get stable.

Great thread , you should put it out in paperback. I like the sci-fi part. Love sci-fi. Shame about all the hassles with the Quad though.

Best of luck. If you guys can't sort it out, it probably can't be.

Hey Salty. Thanks for talking the time to read through. Yeah this chip really doesnt like to do very much in the X48 board. I have yet to try it in the P45 but it wont do me any good because its home is in this X48 board cause Im trying to consolodate computers so I only need to have one on at night lol. IDK. My E8500 is awesome. I havent really tried to go higher then 3.8ghz on it cause I like hte 1:1 ram ratio I should put the 1066mhz ram in and see what happens. IDK I just dont seem to have the time to do the things I want to do. I need a solid weekend, interuption free to strip everything and build them up a few times in different combinations to see what works. all I know is if I change the FSB to 400Mhz with this Q9550 at whatever Multi weather its and underclock or overclock it doesnt like it. Ive jacked volts all over the place with no difference. Anyway im not worried esspecially. I will try putting it back to stock 2.83 ghz Pfttt. and running Vantage again to see if it passes. I dont know why it didnt @ 3.09ghz its 24 hour prime stable and plays games all day but who knows. This computer is going to have to do me for a while. Besides its all kinda a waste now as since I have been introduced to and addicted there after to Eve Online I havent hardly played any FPS or anything. I mean Eve can run on a 5 year old laptop if you wanted it to. But it does look good with everything turned right the way up. I concidered getting an I7 but im not going to just yet. With the release of the P55 and all those new I5's and what not I wanna see what happens. And they are still super over priced in Australia. Another big factor is the next purchase I make will be my Yamaha YZ125 dirt bike. I have to have something to keep me fit. (get me fit). This is in the pipe line. Next week maybe, just waiting on a guy.

Back to crashing, I have had 1 or 2 BSOD in the last couple of months but they have been while doing the same thing, browsing web using crapernet explorer 8 and watching video in WMP and they have been some Display driver crap out so I thought it was a sortware thing but I guess if things arent right it could be a hardware thing. I should put it back to stock and see how things go since Im not really using the power at the moment anyway. Just the work stock, sounds dirty. It just doesnt feel right. Im sure the guys here will agree. lol. Good night everyone.
