Thanks to both conners and psycho101. I'm starting to get a handle on what has to be done. I loaded the settings that psycho101 sent and ran memtest for about an hour and a half with only 2 errors ( test 5 ). While I would like to be error free this is certainly a start. I'll do some more longer term testing and see what kind of stability I can get. Then I might think about oc.

    Thanks again

Just a little note to you, I suppose you know that you can save your basic bios once you have it set up as you like. To do so just hit F11 and give it a name of your choosing. F12 you can load a saved bios. You can save it to the HD, floppy, flash drive, or any thing else you want. Take it from me do it it will save your arse, especially if your overclocking.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't think I am there yet. Your question about my ram is valid, since using 6-6-6-20, which was written on each stick, not only got me a bsod, but I couldn't even boot. I had to go back to 9-9-9-24 which seems to work. At least I can run memtest error free.

I am now at the point of having vista tell me I have a corrupt startup file and I have to jump through hoops to get vista running. I am about to restore an earlier image file of a working vista os and see if that is stable.

More probably later. ( When ( if? ) I get a stable os I definitely will use F11)

It appears that setting the Standard Timing Control at 6-6-6-24 for my Crucial Ballistix DDR3 1333 is unstable, even though each stick is marked that way. I went back to 9-9-924 after I couldn't boot vista. I was finally able to get it running after using the startup repair. I ran memtest for 4 passes ( about 2 3/4 hrs and did get two fails on pass 2 ( test #5), but that was all. I would certainly like to be error free so if anyone has any suggestions on bios changes I would appreciate them. Here is the cmos as it stands now ( that is, with 2 memtest errors )
