Default need a little help with Intel X6800 on a X48-DS4

Ok i have been useing my new I7/Gigabyte x58 setup and could not be more impressed with how great in just all around proformance i get with it.But now i have a GA-X48-DS4 board that i gave to a friend and he is useing a Intel X6800 chip now i had a Q9450 on this board and was very happy with it but this chip is a new animal all together. Can anyone with maybe this chip on a similar board(x38) give me a place to start as far as Bios setting go with what i should be at for a base to begin a OC.The chip has a little age so finding anyone that used it on a X48 motherboard has not been a easy .Any help will be taken.Thxs

Well if he knows what he is doing then that will help, if not we would need to know what speed range he is looking to get to and the full ram specs he plans to use.

Be sure he updates to the latest BIOS, here is the latest suggested Beta
    http://europe.giga-byte.com/FileList...s4_1.3_f3b.exe

And here is a guide on how to use Qflash for him, unless you can go flash it for him

Here would be default stock settings with a overclock in mind

    he bought this
    Kingston HyperX T1 Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model KHX8500D2T1K2/4G - Retail
i used MUSHKIN so i hope this will work as good.
As far as speed what do you think is posible with that chip useing a ZALMAN 9700 cooler on it.

Ya that should work fine, might not overclock as well as Mushkin though but Kingstons are good solid performers at their specs for sure.

With a 9700 cooler he should be able to do 3.6 for sure, maybe more depending on his skills or how often he can get you to come over to help

If he does not have any knowledge about overclocking be sure to link him to the sticky I posted, it covers this board for sure in great detail. Should help him out a lot really I would think.

If you would like me to post some 3.2 or 3.4 or 3.6 settings let me know, but we do need to keep in mind he has an Extreme CPU so he has the option of going either way with FSB or CPU Multi to overclock. Much to play with for a beginner for sure

ok i am spending the day on this system getting Vista64 installed and everything up and running i hope to by Tonight try to start a OC.Now with the FSB or CPU Multi Overclock is going to be new for me with like u said its a Extreme chip it can be done both ways.I hope to get him to around 3.6ish + - stable. Now if you could give a little help with getting me to a place where i could start to fine tune that would be great.Im not sure what the best way to get him to that point?

ok got this up and running but cant seem to get the CPU stabel even at 3.2 lsd COULD YOU GIVE ME A LITTLE HELP WITH WHER THE LOW TO HIGH END OF VOLTAGES FOR THIS cpu.The temps are a little higher than i thought not bad but even at 3.4-3.6 when i get in 2 windows 50ish and 75ish Prime95 100%.I did run memtest last night with memory at 1066 and all went fine so i sure i am either 2 high or maybe even 2 low with voltages

Not sure if any one is still useing a Intel X6800 chip do to it being a few yaers old but if any one is and is OC it could you give a quick post on Voltages for CPU i have gone as high as 1.42 but seems high to me?Also if there is a person that is OC one what is to high as far as a Multy -vs- FSB O.C. just not sure if im going to high with the X adn not using the FSB to raise speed is the right way to go?
