Lol. Well its funny cause only yesterday some funky sh.it happened in town and the power did a big 3 hard flick on and off's and the third time a monitor @ work that was not on UPS did not come back on. They light just flickers and makes a badddd noise. Thats the second monitor this month. I dont know what the go is. but I wont by an Aopen monitor after seeing that. lol cause both were AOpen. anyway Yeah serious most home and content insurances cover stuff from "Acciedents"

Hey, Good news (I think) Be Quiet PSU does have short circuit protection, and all sorts of other protections, so hopefully it'll test out ok.
But then why didn't it kick in when I needed it most!?

Is it poss. the short circuit was a very 'local' closed loop, (mobo to mobo) that ended itself by burning the track, so PSU wasn't directly involved?
(I don't know much about these things)
In which case, hopefully again, it'll test out ok. maybe.

Thx for all your support & help, you guys are really kind not to laugh or raise eyes to heaven!

Yeah after a little more research it does seem to depict that it does have short circuit protection but yes I asked the same question in my head. Why the hell didnt it trip?? Maybe that track was just piss weak and took less current to burn then the "Fuse"??

    Hi Again,

New EP45 UD3P mobo arrived today, UPS failed to deliver yesterday...

Meanwhile, I took PSU for testing to two local Computer shops; one said 'Green light (OK) on the 24 pin (but I think theirs was a basic tester with just red=fail/green=ok LEDs).
Other shop said the 5v line on the twentyfour pin was delivering only 4.2v (all other lines were spot on, on all connectors).

He said it at least it wouldn't damage mobo or components, which I realise, though I'll still RMA the PSU, but cant start that process till Monday.

Is the 4.2v on the 5v line critical to correct operation of mobo & CPU & RAM, or will they tolerate the 0.8v drop? (or be damaged?)

-because I'm a tad worried that I might also have fried my CPU &/or RAM, can I at test if they're ok by hooking them all up & testing over weekend, while awaiting replacement PSU?

I know it's Saturday, and you're all prob. out doing what Saturdays are for, but if anyone can advise soon, so I can get on (or not...) with testing? (not knowing if CPU & RAM are ok is killing...)

    Thanks in advance!

    Sorry, I didn't write previous post very well;
what I meant was, -is 5V critical to fully correct operation of MOBO/PSU/RAM?

-or will they tolerate 4.2v, so allowing me to test them (at least with memtest86...if they all even start up)?

    2nd correction; I meant MOBO/CPU/RAM, not MOBO/PSU/RAM!

I dont think you will hurt anything. Who knows it may just be enough to get it all up and going fine. Plug it in and give it a go. You got nothing to loose and some piece of mind to gain.

    Thanks NimrodAus,
for your quick reply; I'll get going & hook it all up and see!
-will let you know (prob much later) how it goes...

Mate if it were me I would be hooking it and giving it a whirl. Just make sure there are no bare wires touching stuff. lol
