I'm sticking with Core 2 until Intel decides what it is going to do. I have been reading about them discontinuing the 1366 and going to the other one, whatever number that is. I got burned when I made the jump to the Athlon 64 754, and a month later they brought out the 939. Don't want that again. While I do not expect new stuff to last as long as 775 did, I'll be damned if I want to fork out the kind of dough you need to move to I7 when it is not going to have anymore than a year of upgrade path.

Black does absorb heat, but from light. It has little if any impact what colour a heatsink is painted if the heat source doesn't involve sun light. If it did, my TrUE black would be useless, and it's far from it.

I agree Capt. Proton. I'm probably just voicing my wishes, ie I wish I had an infinate source of cash to be able to afford the latest and greatest.

I've heard the rumors too. Hopefully they'll just discontinue selected i7 processors. I'm sure the top tier i5 will make the i7 920 obsolete from a marketing point of view. It'll remain a superb CPU ofc, just have no place in the expanded product line up. This may lead (hopefully) to some sweet discounts. In fact I'd be willing to bet that at least the 920 will not make it to the 32nm refresh.

As for the UD5... If getting your first P45 or another P45 board, then getting it would be a bonus. I'm not convinced personally that the extra phases will have a dramatic impact. While there's no doubt that extra phases mean better, smoother, cleaner power delivery, the 6 phase UD3 is already doing an amazing job on both Core 2 Quad. Benefit seems negligable IMO, but I may be proved wrong on its release. I think it's only a viable upgrade if you can get a good price for your UD3, which means selling it now, before the UD5 causes its value to drop.

    That's Taiwan's Gigabyte website lol..

according to the information on the BIOS section, the board was released around September of 2008. There are BIOS versions up to F9! WOW..

Maybe it's just my untrained eye not noticeing any major differences, but looking at the BIOS'es dates, I do notice they seem to be exactly the same. Maybe there's no major h/w related change? The only thing I see different from the images is the rev. nr in the upper left side (altough IMO looks like a 4 rather than a 6).

The only hardware change is the inclusion of Smart 6. This involves a doubling of CMOS storage space, to accomodate the new features such as secure storage of passwords, from bank account to Windows log on, Paypal account etc.

There aren't any changes that effect the fundamental functioning and overclocking of the board.

I'm confused. why would you use a BIOS that's made for rev 1.1? that's obviously not going to work...

Use the F9 bios from the rev 1.6 page.
