    Default Computer Freezes!

I built this computer about 5 months ago. Ever since then, it will occasionally freeze up. By that I mean the mouse will stop or any video or audio playing will stop. This lasts about 5-10 seconds, then I can hear something in the computer "start back up" and everything is fine. I have 2 HD's, one for programs and one for storage. I thought the program HD was going bad, so I replaced it. No change. Although I put this computer together myself, consider me a novice because I really am. I would appreciate any help.

    System Info:
    Gigabyte EP45-UD3P v1.1
    Intel Core2 Duo E8400 LGA775 3GHz
    Diamond ATI All-In-Wonder HD3650
    Aero Cool i-curve box
    2-WD 6400GB HD's
    Crucial DDR2 PC2-8500 4X1GB
    Vista Ultimate 32
    Bios updated 3 days ago

Almost sounds like it is going into standby mode.
Does it occur while you are working on the computer - ie: typing, moving the mouse?
Check your settings and see if hibernation is enabled.

Hybrid sleep -whatever that is-was set to on. I turned it off. Could that be it? It was stopping while in use.

I have seen computers do all kinds of strange things - especially older IBM RISC computers running Unix.
It's possible that Hybrid sleep was acting squirrely.
The noise you heard sounds like the hard drive spinning back up, since the only thing in there (besides your cd/dvd drive) that is going to make any noise is either a fan or hard drive.
I have seen a failing fan (drawing too much current) freeze up a computer before - but that was a very rare case.

Since I changed the setting, I will monitor this for a while and get back with you with the results. Thanks for the help

Despite turning off the sleeping and hibernating, I am still having the freeze problem. This is getting aggravating!

As best you can, describe what happens before, during and after the freeze - are you running a certain program etc, what exactly happens physically to the system - what sounds etc.

4X1GB are often unlikely to work at default settings, this post may help you.
Also, what speed and voltage your memory default to, and what Static tRead Value?

I can be doing anything when this happens, reading email, surfing, etc. I can find no common denominator. I am attaching some screenshots from my setup. Perhaps there is something amiss there. I can't tell. I'm not very good at this stuff
