    Default Computer Still Freezing!

I'm back with the same, continued problem, but more information. My computer occasionally "freezes" during use. By this I mean that any audio or video playing will stop for a few seconds. And it's just not audio/video. Anything I'm doing may freeze for 5-10 seconds every so often. Then, things return to normal and off I go. I have two hard drives, one for progams (C) and one for storage (D). The freezing seems to happen most when something I do utilized the D drive. But not always. I have changed the drive out, but the problem continues. Both hard drives have been changed, with no effect. The drives are SATA and the C is plugged into: GSATA2_0 and the D: GSATA2_1, on the motherboard. I hope someone has some ideas for me on this. It is getting very frustrating. Below are some more specs:

Well My Suggestion is to get them out of the Gigabyte (Jmicron) SATA ports and use the Intel ones. The gigabyte ones are most likely purple? The intel ones are yellow. Use the Intel ones for your HDD's starting at PORT 0. Also set your SATA Port0-3 Native Mode------------[Enabled]

Thanks NimrodAUS, I think you've solved my problem! I haven't frozen up since I made the change you recommended. But tell me please...........what are those Gigabyte SATA ports for? Should I use them at all, and what BIOS changes, if any, should I make as a result? Thanks again for the help.

Honestly Unless you run out of Yellow SATA ports you shouldnt/dont need to use the Purple ones at all. Benchmarks have shown them to be much slower and in your case its just plain bad. Worst case senario if you use up all your yellow with HDD put your Optical Drive in the Purple. In your BIOS the Purple SATA ports are called ONBOARD SATA/IDE Device. You can disable it if you want but it should hurt to leave it on. I have to use one of the Purple for my DVD Burner because for some reason it just doesnt like the yellow since I turned RAID on. I've just noticed that if the settings that you have posted above is correct then your CPU is not running at is Full (stock) speed. You should Increase your Multiplier to 9X333=3.0Ghz. Everything else looks ok. If you really wanted to get hardcore you could start Decreasing some of the voltages and settings you have increased one at a time and run prime 95 for a few hours. Leave your Ram and CPU voltage to what they are suppost to be though. Im really glad I could help you out Phil. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. Good luck

I Agree with all of the above, on many boards with Gsata, all i notice is if a HDD is in use with them (non raid mode) it can cause lots of jolting in an OS. I avoid using the gsata alltogether.

I do have another question, Steve. Are you saying my System Memory Multiplier should be set to 9? If so, that option is not available in my bios. It only goes to 4.00. Or, are you advising me to set my CPU frequency to 3.00 GHz (333x9)? The current setting of 2.66 can't be changed in my BIOS. So I guess what I'm saying is: could you be more specific? Thanks again.

No sorry Phil I should have been more acurate. your CPU Clock Ratio: It should be able to be changed. Go down to it and press enter. If you cant change it then you have a problem. you are Running the Core 2 Duo E8400?? Which is ment to run stock at 3Ghz, 333X9=3Ghz 333X8=2.6Ghz

Ok so Umm if you cant do it then you may need to "LOAD OPTIMUM DEFAULTS" in the Main BIOS Screen. This will basically do what it says and will change any settings you have changed in the BIOS. You will probably have to re set all your RAM timmings and what not so take a not. But you should be running your CPU at its correct speed, you wanna get the best for your buck.
