    Default GA EP45 DS3L Dual Channel memory Problem

    Hi

    some time ago (last year), I bought this motherboard, with 2gb of ram in
    separate dims 1gb x2 (Kingston), but when trying to make work on dual channel the system crash, hangs, etc etc..Searching the internet, I find that I am not the only one who has the same problem, had a lot of angry people like me, with this motherboard, apparently is a problem of BIOS settings. After much searching, I found in this forum the solution, I changed the bios settings (as shown below) and works perfect!!!
    But.....now, I bought another 1gb x2 Kingston memory Kit, and now I have the same problem, I can´t work with the 4 slots busy. I previously modified the DRAM voltage from 1.8 to 2.0 and works well, but now with the new memorys the system hangs again, sometimes never start, or make a "loop start". I try to increase the voltage again from 2.0 to 2.1 and even 2.2, the system start, and recognizes the 4Gb on dual channel but windows crashes on start.
    Please help, What configuration should I use?

    Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3L (F6 bios)
    Intel Core2 Quad q6600
    1gb x2 Kingston Memory (Now)

    the two kits works perfect in dual channel

    If you are not overclocking there's no need to set anything manually other than MCH Core and DRAM voltage maybe.
    See how this works for you, Try with Performance Enhance disabled first, then set Turbo if it works.

    With TURBO ON the systme hangs and never start, the only way that the computer boot with 1gb x2 on dual channel is increasing the voltage of MCH Core and DRAM, but with the 4gb I could never start it.

    I do not understand, it´s supposed Gigabyte is a leading company that sells quality products.

    Try all timinings auto, if doesn't work try Static tRead Value 6-8.

    Rather than setting auto timings, it would be better to set them really loose yourself. If it fixes the issue you can then tighten them back up one at a time. This will also help you know exactly what setting(s) were causing the problem. My guess is that if Turbo renders the PC unbootable and Standard causes less problems, then a lowering of advanced timings is needed. As you've added more sticks I'm guessing tRFC needs increasing to compensate.

    Try advanced timings set to the following:

    As Chike suggested, also raise tRead by 1. tRead=5 may be fine for 266 FSB or it bay be on the edge of instability.

    Lower tRead first on its own (for both channels OFC) and see if that helps. If it totally solves the problem, leave the advanced timings and also try turbo to see if that's stable at the new tRead. If not, Keep tRead=6 (may want to set 7 to be even more sure it's not an issue) and try the suggested advanced timings.

    I've set exceptionally loose ones to make sure, but likely you should end up after tightening with something like 4-4-6-52-6. With the current config, as I mentioned, tRFC of 42 is too low (tight) for 4GB of RAM over 4 x 1GB sticks IMO.

    The system boot (beep) but hangs on the memory test

    Try increasing static tRead further to 8.

    Also try using one stick from each kit together and see if that works (so one old stick in slot 1, one new stick in slot 3, 2 & 4 empty). It seems you have two different kinds of RAM and this often leads to issues. If using two different sticks doesn't work then the two kits are simply incompatible with each other on this board.

    I try using one stick from each kit together, and works perfect on dual channel, then I try to increasing static tRead to 8 and not work (with the four sticks), I try with 10, and now I can use 3 sticks, Any idea?
