    @Phisherman

    There's no RAID on the EP45-DS3.

    You are correct there is no RAID on that board. You need to go to the EP45-DS3R for that :-( which I didnt look at when I bought the DS3 of this board.

    CD/DVD drive should either be on SATA2_4/5 or on the Gigabyte controller. AHCI and boot disks is a known issue, some get it to work and some do not and end up using the Gigabyte controller to put the CD/DVD Drive onto.

    The CD/DVD drive should always be on the last two ports (4/5), using AHCI/RAID or not. Try that, and if no luck then you will just need to move the cd drive to the other controller.

    Yeah try port 4 or 5 but there is no Gigabyte Controller on the EP45-DS3 :-(

    Ahh, sorry! Just so used to most boards having them

    So ya, he will need to just use port 4/5 or disable AHCI while he needs to use bootable CD's. If this is OS install, you can install from USB or install IDE mode then switch to AHCI if need be.

    I bet just moving the CD to the proper port will fix this right up because I think the issues I often see are running bootable CD's such as memtest86+ while in AHCI, not issues with OS install while AHCI enabled

    I found a workaround for this issue and have possibly found the root cause.

    It seems that there's a timing issue that's been present since EP45-DS3 BIOS F9 where the BIOS will tell the DVD drive to spin up after it times the drive out in the boot sequence.

    The workaround I've found is to press F12 to open the boot menu, then waiting til the DVD drive spins up and turns its LED off before selecting it in the boot menu. I can then boot from the DVD drive with no issues.

    Thread with workaround to this issue

    Might want to get the BIOS team to have a look at that as the last BIOS that didn't have this issue is BIOS F8.
