    Hey Bill They would like you to fill in that blue page on page 1 that ProJim sent. You will find those settings in your bios. If your not sure on any of them you can switch it from auto to manual read the setting and then switch it back again to auto. Post it in here and they can get you going there.

    If you feel that with all the photo work you do, the amount of RAM is holding you back then I would save a bit of cash up to buy Windows 7 64bit when it's released in the next few months. Your current OS, as Chike correctly said can only address a maximum of 4GB of total RAM. This RAM actually includes any video RAM on the graphics card too, as well as I believe cache RAM on certain other devices. For example, with 4GB of RAM installed and a GFX card with 512MB of frame buffer, the most RAM you will see available for use by Windows 32 bit will be (likely even less than) 3.5GB.

    If you do get yourself a 64bit OS, then 6GB or 8GB of RAM may benefit you, especially if dealing with .raw files and editing multiple large, high res photos at once. Bear in mind though that it is often difficult to get 8GB of RAM going when all four sticks are identical. Mixing types of RAM, including the same product but in different sizes (its perfectly possible that the actual RAM chips or PCB used could be completely different) can lead to problems, or it may work fine.

    For ways to optimize your current config, please follow profJim's suggestion. With the template filled in we can tell exactly where you're at now, and likely ways to improve things. Many non tweakers will have a lot of RAM settings on auto. To see what auto is actually setting, then suggesting possibly tighter, likely faster settings could you also include a screen-shot of a program called Memset, including both the main window and the window that opens when you click the "SPD" button. Memset is available here: Tweakers.fr (the official Memset thread at xtremesystems.org is currently down).

    A comprehensive list of your components is also important. Follow the format shown in other peoples signatures, including motherboard model, CPU type and current speed, RAM amount and exact brand (a link to the product would be great so we can see timings voltages etc recommended), GFX card, Power Supply model, brand and capacity and type of cooling on the CPU (eg stock Intel heatsink, OCZ Vendetta II, custom water-cooling etc).

    Without these things, it's extremely difficult and confusing to both you and the advisor on settings needed to improving performance.

    thanks all. I am working on filling out my bios info now.I think i listed everything in my sig and I am trying to atleast post memtest results......but i cannot get it to paste here. Do i need top save the image and then load it here? let me try again....

    Ok...hopefully I did this right. I filled int he info and changed a few settings to disabled as indicated in the sheet. let's see how this turns out...

    What tweaking are you looking for, or do tou want to overclock?
    Temperatures are a concern, what kind of CPU heatsink do you have, stock or aftermarket?

    Stock.....ya know funny you mentioned that. I was playing in my bios and set the fan and temp alerts to on......immediately when i rebooted the alarms were going on.......not good huh?
    What fan would you recommend for my set up. I bought Zalmans before on other boards and hate having to try an mod one to fit...I am not good at that. I need a good one that "just fits!".

    Diffcult to tell which one "just fit" some fit and difficult to install, read some reviews see what is best for your needs and budget.
    Monitor the temps with RealTemp/CoreTemp, that's what is used on the forum.
    Should have got any alerts with stock heatsink and settings, maybe the heatsink isn't seated propely or the air flow in the case is insufficient.

    Here is a temperature and voltage application that works well in Windows called HWmonitor. It will even give you the DDR voltage that seems to be elusive in other monitoring apps. Click on CPUID for the download site, it's actually HWmonitor------> CPUID
