Default GA-MA770T-UD3P unlocks cores with F2 bios

    Hi guys,
just a follow up note, I was able to unlock all 4 cores last night after flashing to the F2 bios. MB shipped with F1. CPU is the Phenom ll X2 550 black edition. Which starts life as a 3.1 dual core.
In bios setting switch to "hybrid".
I have not ran a bunch of stress test on it or overclocked it but was just curious to see if it would unlock them. I did run the program "performance test" from passmark, which tests the whole system and gives a score at the end. A strange thing did occur, my score was 989.0 in quad mode, when I tested with it in dual core mode, I got a score of 997.0. A bit odd I thought. Regardless, it is a fast setup and I have not really noticed any difference in speed running it in quad mode in apps that I do run. Perhaps the future will make this function more practical.
The bios upgrade did do one other thing, using the ET6 and cpuid, they both id the cpu as a Deneb, where as before its ID was a Kuma. Even before the quad core unlock. What is up with that, don't know and don't really care. It is suppose to be a Castillo core. But what's in a name anyway, as long as it says AMD on the outside..ha, sorry for that one Intel guys.

No, I did not have to do anything else, no volts or FSB, nothing. I did follow the advise on the bios update by setting the "load defaults to optimize option". other than that no changes...
I have read where the week of mfg on the chip has something to do with it, they said those produced before week 22 has a problem running all 4 cores.
mine is 0922. don't know if that is the issue or not, good luck..with or without all 4 cores it is a blazing fast chip...and very overclockable...

Ok, if you really want to check, you will have to remove the heatsink, be careful doing so and never try to remove one from a hot machine, let it be cool before removing a heatsink.
Wipe off your paste and under the words AMD Phenom II, are 3 lines of info. The second or middle line has the info you seek, mine says,
    CYCAC AC 0922APMW.
In short, mfg in the 22nd week of 2009. If you google (0922apmw), you will get many results to read from...
Really it is quite a bit of trouble just to find this info out, you are light speed faster than you were,
As I had posted earlier, I had a better benchmark from it running as a dual core. And from what i have read, it overclocks to 3.5 of 3.6 with just adjusting the multiplier mainly but other factors may come into play. If your not use to overclocking, get all the info you can before attempting. Search in here for answers regarding this or post a new question regarding what you would be doing exactly..
but to be honest it brings me back to an old saying that goes, "if it isn't broke, don't fix it". I have not overclocked mine as it is a very very fast chip "as is"..

cudaviper I don't believe the cores really unlocked. Your passmark benchmarks are low for the unlocked AMD Phenom II at 3.1Ghz
    w/DDR3
    Mine is a Phenom 9600 2.3Ghz w/DDR2
    Just to compare.

Trial? Uninstall and re-install, using a good uninstall program such as Your Uninstaller 2008 or Total Uninstall, not the add/remove programs menu.

All BIOS Should work, even the newer ones as Gigabyte plans to let this work for CPU that will do it.

    Great advice Lsdmeasap.
cudaviper I decided to run it again at 2.3Ghz withthe cpu tab open. Those are the numbers that should be more helpful for your evaluation.
