just something else i felt i should mention, dont recall if i already did, but upon taking my vcore below 1.3v, it blue screens with the 124 error code which is the qpi voltage code.

i have been lowering my vcore , not qpi, but it still gives me the qpi code.... just a thought.

Highest i have taken mine so far is 3.990 or 21x190. WANTS MORE QPI!!! . greedy little chip.

For what it's worth I'm using cheapola Crucial DDR3 1066 ram running at 1688 MHz with stock voltage 1.5v. You don't necessarily need the most expensive ram. This is the exact kit I have http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820148244

hey baron, just wanted to see how things are going. Im currently stressing 185x21= 3.885ghz. You need to either use a 19x or 21x multi. To use the 21x , turn off EIST , I know for a fact this inscreases stability when using turbo over a certain clock. Turning off EIST keeps the multi from jumping around alot, i know this for a fact since i was never stable over 3.5ghz with eist on and turbo on , now i am. Give it a try . Just finished a quickie 15 min prime small fft no problemo. Boosted up the blck to 190 giving me 3.990ghz. Ill post after this run.

ahhh , soon as i started up prime it BSOD'd #124 , not enough qpi. Lets try again.

Peter, so true. I got my 6gb OCZ intel i7 optimized 1333, really rated for 1066 standard running at 1560. it was 90 bucks.

... I used to have problems . Well, still do but im solid over here now. Just tweakin around with my machine and trying to help others out as others helped me and learn more everyday. No tech support emails or phone calls could ever replace the real life tips and help you can receive from others personal experiences. I learned that from personal experience.

I would have RMA'd or just went and got another board if it weren't for this forum.

I'm glad everything is working out for you and thank you for all of your help. After much thought I have decided overclocking isn't for me, atleast not yet. Until my CPU can't run games anymore (equivalent to today's Celeron D) I won't get any performance increases from my cpu other than in bechmarks. For now I would rather run my CPU as cool as possible so it can last as long as possible. Thanks once again for all your help I really appreciate it.

Let me ask you this , how high do your temps get at stock speed?

Make sure that auto voltage is off.

a 165x21 =3.465 should give you no trouble with 1.2875 (stock voltage)

you never let us know ur temps before you crashed .

just try again real quick, it'll only take min

By the way, i needed 1.45vcore and 1.44qpi to get 4.011ghz using 191x21.
Temps went to 76c in 15 min of prime smalls.

At stock with hyper threading on and everything else that is supposed to be I get 68C max when using prime 95. 68C is the max intel recommends the i7 to run at which is a big reason I am not really interested in overclocking at this time. I don't want to decrease the life of my CPU if I can help it.

Quick question though. All these overclocks I have been doing to my CPU, they can only damage it or decrease the life of it when kept running 24/7 right? Or is it the temperatures that do the damage or maybe the voltage if it goes over 1.65 or the recommended amount?

I will try to answer my own question, just let me know if I'm right.

Whatever CPU you buy has certain "Stock" settings which are what the cpu was rated to use. When you overclock you are making your cpu go faster than rated so therefore the lifetime based on stock speeds will decrease according to the overclock.

So basically this last day or two id say my computer was on for 15 hours. Most of those hours were while the cpu was overclocked so instead of my cpu decreasing in 15 hours of its life expectancy would it be reasonable to say it really lost 20 hours instead due to the amount of time it was overclocked?
