Thread: POST i7 CORE TEMPS HERE!!!

Yo, just finished up my reseat and doing some stressing using IBT with my current Sig settings. Really no improvement in temps, but of course i would need to cover the break in period. Right now im running it on high, auto threads, and am peaking at 75, passed. same as before so if it breaks in i just be able to get a couple degrees knocked off. It failed the 8 thread high test. Previous Seating would pass 8hr prime small fft every time.

My first original HS mount i used the spread thin method, this time i did the regular ol' single line. I do believe i may have squeezed it on just a tad bit too thick. Was originally planning on the 2 line method but decided to go with this until i get more input from everyones expierience. Im using AS5 by the way.

When i pulled the Noctua i did notice the TIM pattern left behind looked like it was a bit too thick , not uniform even though i spread it myself, some of it even getting on the cpu pressure clip. I cleaned both surfaces using 90% alcohol, nice n shiny.

Also, i mounted the heatsink vertically as opposed to the horizontal mount i previously used as recommended by some other members here. Now, the rig is running small ffts 10 minutes so far and at 74c. One thing i did notice different is the temperatures are much more uniform .
Before , some cores would have a difference of 5-6c and not remain steady as posted above. Now, they seem to be pretty level at 73 71 72 68. That 4th core has always done that.

Talk to me. I know some improvement can be made here, a nice 5c drop would be nice to take closer to 70c. Let me know what TIM application methods worked best for you using what cooler especially all you out there using the noctua, and what stepping i7(C0 or D0) and they type of results they yielded such as temperature diff between cores, temp jumping between cores.

I know there is a few reviews/tests on this matter , but i would like to know from you guys and your own personal experience .

Thanks for reading and the future replies. You guys rock.

Thats a wonderful sight Hyperion. I was keeping an eye on the other thread u was , glad to see you made it. Well done! My C0 has been running 181x21 - 3.8ghz around 76c-78c @1.35vcore. Not too happy with it. Noticed my Noctua has scratch in the contact surface, wondering if lapping that guy would give me a few degrees. Regardless, it wont help my 4ghz attempts get even close to a comfortable operating temperature.

Have you thought about selling your C0 and buying a D0. Do you live near a Microcenter? You can get to 4GHz pretty easily with a D0, but then you'll want to hit 4.2GHz+. I ended up giving my C0 to my nephew, he paired it with an Asrock Extreme mobo (pos) and he's stuck at 3.8GHz. 4 GHz isn't guaranteed with a C0.

I was wondering about that as well. My Noctua has a grooved surface instead of a smooth flat surface.

be very very carefull if your going to lap it as the copper heatpipes are hollow inside and ive seen people puncture through making the cooler useless

Yea i dont like the grooves much but the Included Noctua TIM is supposed to work well with it. Was thinking of giving it a try as i have seen no improvement in temps over my last re-seat. The scratch on the surface is really bothering me, dont think i could have that much effect on temps but who knows.

Hey Peter, good to see you. Yea i do live close to a Microcenter and i have been thinking hard about getting a D0 from over there. I see C0's selling on ebay for $200 plus. That would work out awesome. i just know if the extra 200 mhz is really worth it all. The temps would be worth it, as of last nite - 3.8ghz with HT on gives me high 70's which im not happy with , but am gonna try a couple reseats before anything.

Another thing, i can never seem to get 5 good passes on IBT Memory can fluctuate during use and i have no page file, so "IBT has stopped working " and quits when it goes over. So then i use custom , leaving me with 200mb of ram to spare w/16threads running . It passes this time, only after disabling HT and upping my vcore some more. Keep in mind, the settings i use are 8 hr prime stable using 4000mb ram custom.

While im blabbing, somebody tell me why when i load my 2 hour furmark stable 1920x1080 8xmsaa EVGA profile 700/1450/1175 , Crysis frames get pretty much knocked in half. Using anything besides stock clocks it does this, and its only cure is a reboot.
    Ideas?

Was it the Asian guy at the Detroit MC? If so don't listen to that guy he's a real jackass. From everything I've read the Meg is an excellent cooler. That and the TRUE are supposed to be the best.
