    I currently have a successful overclock but I am looking to push the CPU futher.

    My main concern is the CPU PLL, what is the max volt I can push this to with a 45nm CPU.
    I have it set to 1.2V atm with no problems. I'm looking to get this to 4ghz, as the FSB won't be pushed to far I won't have to increase the VTT much just the Vcore. Can anyone clarify what not to pass on the PLL.

    The Intel specification for the CPU PLL is 1.5V +- 5% (1.425-1.575V) for your processor. http://download.intel.com/design/pro...hts/320467.pdf page 18.

    I currently have the CPU stable at 3.8Ghz but I can't seem to get this stable at 4 Ghz when stress testing using prime or OCCT.

    Can anyone suggest some voltage changes I could preform or if anything looks incorrect so far

    Did you load OPTIMIZED bios settings before modifying your bios?

    Cpu Termination (VTT) that is too low can cause instability. Try increasing one step at a time and see if this helps.
    The general recommendations is that VTT should be at least 0.05 - 0.10 volts lower than Cpu Vcore.

    What setting are you using for Static tRead Value?
    Which specific stability tests are failing and what is the time of the failure?

    If you want specific bios suggestions, we need the following:

    1) List your system components in your signature.
    --> User CP tab (upper left corner of web page)
    --> select Edit Signature
    --> enter your hardware components (brand, model, etc.)
    --> include your bios version
    --> preview
    --> Save when complete

    2) Link to your ram's full specifications.

    I'm usually failing during blend test prime 95 during the first 5 minutes usually 1 thread stops working,

    My orginal VID is 1.1375v my current is 1.34v and I have yet to update the bios revision.

    Edit* I have never load optimized Bios

    What setting are you using for Static tRead Value?

    This I must have set to auto as I haven't changed this

    Trying to bump up the FSB and keep the CPU at 3.8Ghz for now.
    My previous Overclock at 3.75Ghz 12.5 x 300Mhz (above has been successful)
    My problem is with the below setting I am having issues getting this stable for 333Mhz.
    I'm using Prime 95 blend test to check the OC. Approx 40 minutes into the test I get failed thread on core 1 (0,1)
    I've tried bumping the Vcore up slowly, I've heard over 1.3 for the VTT on a 45nm core could be dangerous.

    Can someone take a look.

    I'm passing OCCT (Large file) for 8 hour test but failing Prime 95 Blend after 40 mins.

    I have upped the Dimm Volt to 2.2v and loosened the timings to 6-6-6-21 and it is now failing after 3 hours on prime.

    I'm guessing there is an issue with the Memory strap or modules.

    Do you remember the size of FFT that Prime Blend fails on? This can give a clue. If it's ~512K or more it could well be a RAM/MCH issue.

    May I suggest a tweak in MCH reference? Temporarily set CPU Term to 1.2V, then set MCH ref to 0.740V. Now put CPU Ref back to 1.3V if that's what you're using. The default for auto is 0.760V @ 1.2 CPU Term (also called VTT, or FSB voltage). Lower values can help stabilise dual core CPU's in particular. When you set VTT back to 1.3, MCH ref will automatically rise, this is fine and is what you want. Setting 0.740V @ 1.2VTT alters the rate at which MCH ref scales with VTT.

    Another thing worth notig is that although you beleive the CPU isn't the issue, it may well be. I'm not saying it is, however from experience, you have a very good E5200 if it's happy at 3.8GHz. I've seen some do 4GHs on 1.45V so you may be a lucky dude, but I would give a slight Vcore bump a try too, if temps allow. Try for 1.4V after Vdrop and Droop (Vdroop should be next to zero with LLC on, Vdrop (difference between what's set in BIOS and actual unloaded Vcore in CPU-Z etc) won't be effected and will be the same.

    One more thing. I would, before you do anything else, go into the BIOS and re-enable Thermal Monitor 2. This doesn't effect stability or overclocking. It's function is to throttle back the CPU and even turn it off if CPU temps reach a set point (TJMax = 100 roughly). It's strongly recommended you keep it on. Even a new rig can suffer a fan failure or such, and at those clocks, the heat caused could kill your chip or worse.

    Looks like it was the 512K FFT size that was failing (approx 2hour into the blend test)

    I've actually turned the VTT down to 1.2v and set the Vcore 1.375v and its currently running for 3hours+ fine on blend.
    The MCH reference is set to .740v and I've also set the thermal monitor back on.

    The actual Vcore Idle according to CPU-z is 1.344v

    512K is boarder line, but it does point to MCH problems. It sounds like a lower MCH ref has improved things a litlle.

    If you have another failure, I'd maybe start increasing VTT in 0.02V steps. If you get to ~1.38-1.4V VTT, switch back to 1.2V and set a 0.720 MCH Ref. Now repeat the test, followed by the increase in VTT again if instability is encountered. You'll know if what you're doing is working as the time between failure will increase. For me personally I consider a 20-30min difference in time beore failure as something that could well happen on a repeat test of the same unstable setting. As you have over a hour improvement, this suggests to me that you're going in the right direction.
