Default Freeze if boot to 4Ghz ?? (500FSB)

    Why i cant boot if i OC my procesor (Core2Quad Q9400 2.66 Ghz) ??
What is default MCH voltage for 500 FSB ?
What i should set for ICH ??
    Thx

PS i will post setting later

4.0GHz for a quad core is not easy, nor is it guaranteed.
A more modest overclock to 3.6 - 3.8GHz is probably doable.
What is your current highest stable overclock?
Provide your stable bios settings and we will help you o/c higher.

Q9550 and Q9650 E0 usually do 500 FSB but may need some tweaking. Other Quads like the Q9400 may not be able to do 500 FSB.

You will probably need 1.2-1.3V MCH voltage, exact amount varies.

ICH is for the ICH10R southbridge, you should not need to change that for overclocking.

I have running on 3.8 Ghz stable with vcore 1.3475
I have set 4Ghz and all is auto (except memory and general setting)
and i boot with 4Ghz, stress test and error :(
this is current voltage (Auto , 4Ghz)

1.6V CPU Termination may kill your CPU Very fast, I'd advise you lower that. 1.8+ PLL will kill your CPU Super fast as well, default is 1.5, I'd say around 1.58-1.64 should be plenty and still safe.

As said above not all Quads can do 500 FSB, especially the cheaper ones such as Q9400, you may have to settle for 3.8 or pickup a new CPU

    Thanks, LSDMEASAP........
my friend can boot to 4Ghz with Asus Maximus Formula....
    here is the screen shot

He said he was run to 4Ghz with this voltage
    vCore : 1.375
    CPU PLL : 1.60600
    FSB termination : 1.365
    Dram : 2.11800
    NB : 1.5

but its error on OCCT cause cpu too hot......

Well you can't really compare your hardware to his, too much that is.

You may just need better cooling is all, 1.4 is alot of MCH for P45 and could likely be his or your issue if you are using more than 1.3-1.4 without additional cooling on the NB. You shouldn't need more than 1.3 or so for 500+ FSB especially with only 4GB of ram. More is not always the answer, have you tried lower voltages as well?

Can you get 450 stable? If so what are your settings for that? When you do run 500 FSB, what fails the ram or the CPU?

    i forget the setting :(
i have increase to 4Ghz and forget what im set for 3.8...
    i will try again

by the way, what is the safe voltage for my spec (VTT, Vcore) ?

Please take advantage of your BIOS. You can save 8 profiles. To save profiles on the MAIN page of the BIOS press F11 and to load a profile Press F12. Be sure when saving you do not write over another profile you want to keep.

That way you don't have to remember/guess your settings for different speeds, you can just save them and switch between them anytime.

One thing to be sure to check when switching from one profile to another is your Memory Multiplier, sometimes this can get set to Auto when switching. So always check that when you switch back and forth and you shouldn't have any other issues with it.

Well safe voltages depends, do you mean safe voltages that Intel specifies? If so Max allowed CPU Vcore 1.45 and Vtt is 1.32 Per the chipset (Vtt Depends on CPU used as well though so this varies 1.45v Per 45nm CPU) and MCH is 1.21 >>

    MCH/Vtt
    http://www.intel.com/Assets/PDF/datasheet/319970.pdf

If you mean what is the max overclockers use, with proper cooling? I'd suggest staying under 1.45-1.55 Vcore without being on water or Dry Ice/ Ln2 and keeping Vtt under 1.38/1.4 without better cooling as well. MCH I would suggest keeping under 1.35 if possible without adequate cooling

On Air I would suggest you keep them both (Vcore Actual & Vtt) under 1.45 really, otherwise you are risking harm to the processor.

490-510 fsb is just about the max you will see 45 nm quad core users here using for 24/7 on air .

It doesnt seem to be so much the actual speed of the cpu runs at its more that quads just dont like in excess of 500 fsb.
Even 20 mhz lower than that and you will probably find your self running voltages much closer to stock ..all voltages.
Think of 1.36-1.4 actual cpuV as a sort of grey area where your cpu may last just as long as a "vanilla" one.
1.41-1.45 at your own risk but it if it stops working well you cant really complain.
Anything above that chances are itll get too hot too fast for testing on air anyway.
There is a big jump even between 490 fsb and 500 fsb with pll and Vtt set on auto.
I use higher than recommended pll and vtt but not the auto ones at high fsb.
