    Default help with an overclock

    i just replaced my motherboard with the ep43-ds3(f9) i wanted to oc my cpu like on my old board but when i played games i was gettin bsod 0x00000124 after looking around i found the problem could be too low a vtt voltage so increased it but now im getting 0x0000007f when i load optimized defaults it works so i guess its not hardware problems just bad overclocking. i could use some help to oc this board, my last one i just had to increase the cpu frequency and tweak the ram.

    my cpu is the E6600 and my ram is ocz ddr2 8500 2x2gb gold 5.6.6.18 on my old board my cpu ran at 3.2 but im sure i can get more out of it with a stable oc heres a screen shot of some info at optimized defaults.

    i would really appreciate some help

    Can you give us a link to your ram, then I give can you full settings to try for 3.2

    K, thanks! Try this for 3.2 for now and yes you could likely get 3.4-3.6 if you cooler is good

    Ram will be underclocked for now

    thanks for the help, ill try it now then post back and i have the artic cooling freezer pro 7 it had good reviews when i bought it a couple years ago do you think it will take higher clock speeds?

    i tried your guide and it booted up ok so i ran a game but after a few minutes the game shutdown to the desktop and windows said it needed to close the game down thats never happened before so i restarted the game then after 5 minutes it did bsod but with a different code 0x000000D1.
    I set the voltages to the lowest suggested in the guide should i try increasing them? i set the ram timings to manual and set them to 5.6.6.18 but cpu-z shows them as higher??also i set the advanced timings to the highest suggested and static tread value channel a/b to 6 is that right?

    Ya I think that cooler can handle a little bit, I have not used one but I have seen many users with it and several reviews on it. I think it will handle 3.6 from your CPU.

    You may need to use some of the higher voltages I suggested, maybe not the highest but certainly not the lower ones to start with.

    How many reboots did the system do before it posted? I ask because your memory timings should be what you set not higher. So sounds like the overclock failed before windows even started and the board used what it wanted instead?

    Set tRD to 7-8 for now, not 6

    So do all that, some higher voltages and see if you can boot into windows and things show up properly

    ok so i increased the voltages and the trd to 7 but cpu-z still showed the timings as too high so i changed it to 8 but that was no help so i set everything back to default then just oc'd the cpu and set the timings for the ram to manual at 5.6.6.18, set all the voltages and left all other ram settings to auto this time when i looked at cpu-z the timings were even higher than before at 6.8.8.24 and again running a game for 10 mins causes a BSOD.
    these are the voltages im using
    cpuvcore:1.375
    cpu termination:1.4
    cpu PLL:1.59
    mch core:1.24
    dram:2.10
    i've not had any multiple reboots after changing the settings it boots up first time, any idea on what i can try next?

    This is interesting, not even a short silent one?
    Try loading optimized defaults save and reboot then set timings manually and see if they are kept.
    Next thing I'd try would be clearing CMOS then load optimized defaults again.

    thanks for the reply chike, just to clarify when i oc the settings and select save and exit sometimes all the lights and fans go off for a couple seconds and then it boots up and other times all the lights and fans stay on and then it boots up, i tried loading optimized defaults rebooted then i left the cpu alone and set the ram timings to manual at 5.6.6.18 the dram voltage to 2.1 and the memory was on auto showing 800mhz so i changed that to 4.00b which increased it to 1066mhz all of which is the reported default speeds of the cpu and ram however this is what cpu-z shows.

    edit: at these current settings i just had a game running with no BSOD for over 30mins so maybe im getting somewhere but this is with no cpu overclock and the ram timings are setting themselves too high, any ideas on what to try next?
