Yes please run Memtest86+ for 5-10 full passes, or overnight if you have a chance.
Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

Then let us have your settings so we can see if anything looks off, you can find a template in my signature for your board to give us your full settings.

If so I'd recommend backing off by 10MHz on each setting and try running some more games. If the issue doesn't occur, raise clocks until it does, then lower by 3-4MHZ for a little safety margin.

If you have everything at stock, I'd try un-installing the ATI driver suite, then manually cleaning out the /system32/drivers folder and registry while in safe mode. Then install the latest drivers. The 9.8 catalyst suite has been released on an ATI employee's blog as a "treat" for his readers. he confirms they are the final, complete drivers. They're not on the official AMD download page yet, so here's the link: What?s a good title for a Quakecon blog? | AMD at Play the drivers are just above the comments at the end of the blog.

If you still have the problem, try lowering clocks down slightly from stock. This may sound strange, but it may help diagnose the problem. I'd say if it stabilises on lower clocks, there could be a quality issue with the card. The 4770 is the first ATI card to use a smaller manufacturing process, and there have been some problems with it both in terms of ATI getting poor yields (lots of non functioning chips, ie wastage) and in terms of end users having problems. Signal leakage could be an issue if the new GPU isn't shielded well enough for example (usually done with more transistors around the edge of the die, actually on the die not external). ATI added such measures to the 4890's GPU to enable higher clocks than it's previous 4870.
Everything is stock and I've tried cleaning out the drivers completely. I've also tried the cat 9.8 drivers. There's a link to em on the Sapphire forum. I've even tried a windows 7 installation and used the associated motherboard and cat drivers. All to no avail. I seriously doubt its an issue with the 4770 as I was using it in another motherboard with no issues. Thanks for the input though. :)

I guess I could run memtest. Although wouldn't it just be faster to put my old pc6400 in the board and see if it still misbehaves? Its still ddr 2 just at a lower frequency and I know there is nothing wrong with it.

So you think it could be just the card? Or are you not sure?

eh? I don't think its the graphics card at all. It was working perfectly the same day in my old build. And I took great care with every single component during the build.

Ahh ok, well let us have your settings then so we can see if anything looks off. Please test with Memtest86+ while you wait on a reply as well if you can. I may be leaving shortly so I may not get to post back until later tonight

Nothing looks to be off to me, go ahead and run some memtest86+ and see what happens.

You for sure should not get errors as those settings are very loose and not even stock for that ram.

Have you checked in windows with everest or similar to see what voltage for Vdimm is actually being applied? It may be lower and you may need to raise that if so

Just ran Everest and it says voltage to my DIMM's is 2.14. They are rated for 2.10. Is that ok?
