    Dear Kick,

How do I post the full bios setttings? I'd love to be able to do that. I could then keep a record of all the changes I've made.

Please help a damsel in distress...

    Cheers,

    Jessica

PS With the CPU Host Frequency (Mhz) set at 280 I noticed the Memory Frequency (Mhz) reaches 840, so I altered the System Memory Multiplier from [Auto] to 2.4. This changes the Memory Frequency (Mhz) to 700. It’s the nearest I can get to 800.

OCZ Technology | Products | Memory | OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 Platinum Revision 2 Dual Channel
This is the link to your ram web page please add it to your signature with your other system specs (CPU board PSU etc.)

It is actualy able to run at better timings at DDR-800 and overclock at your current timings. DRAM OverVoltage +0.1-0.2v may help it. With 4x1GB ram configuration MCH OverVoltage +0.1v may also help stability and overclcoking.

Mark the text inside the template in this post, right click it and select copy. Open notepad paste it, chahnge the values to your own settings and save.
Delete any settings that your board don'y have if any. Note the settings below default CPU voltage are in Advanced BIOS settings.
Select all from the edit menu, click the # in the post editir toolbabr and paste using Ctrl+V.

I assume the 2.40B memory multiplier, if it's stable you can use it up to 333FSB which it will then make the ram at DDR-800.

The details of the RAM I have is already in my signature.

Here's a printout of my original P35C BIOS:-

Tomorrow I'll change the CPU Host Frequency to 333 and the System Memory Multiplier to 2.40. That should alter the Memory Frequency to 800. I'll alter the
DRAM OverVoltage +0.1 - 0.2v and the MCH OverVoltage +0.1v. Then I'll do some testing.

Thanks for all the help and support.

Ooops i didn't notice the sig, but adding the link is useful anyway.

At FSB300 the ram will still be under ddr-800 with 2.4 mulriplier but don't worry about it now.

EDIT: and don't forget Performance Enhance ...................[Standard]

    Thanks Chike,

    I'll try 300FSB first and then 333.

    Talk to you tomorrow.

When you try 333FSB start with 8 or 8.5 CPU Ratio

When you overclock there are 3 ways of doing it well 4

1 is the way youve been trying initially, speed up cpu and memory together

leaving cpu multiplier on maximum 10 and memory multiplier on auto(3:00)
and raising the cpu host/fsb frequency. This is the hardest because youre overclocking 2 components at the same time and may have to adjust voltages on both amd the memory control hub and not be sure which needs it.

2.hold memory speed at or below standard with max cpu multiplier (x10)and raise the cpuhost/fsb frequency to see what the cpu will do and gradually increasing the cpu voltage if you need to.
This is what you started to do when you dropped the memory multiplier to 2.4.

3.holding down the cpu speed by reducing the cpu multiplier and increase the memory speed by raising the cpu host/fsb frequency with the original(3:00 in your case) memory multiplier on. or(4) a slight variation on that which you are going to try now I think ,reduced memory multiplier but increasing the host frequency.

Booting up with a 8 multiplier on cpu and 2.4 multiplier on memory at 333mhz ref frequency wont show you a lot tho.it would be like your normal memory and cpu speed with a higher fsb between them.
8.5 on cpu would be not much different as you already know your cpu will do 2.8Ghz

If you dont reduce the cpu multiplier as chilke suggests it may not post/boot at 3.3Ghz(without the adjustments you would have made as you gradually approached that speed.
You could go on from there by slowly raising the 333mhz if it boots up ok but you would be back to raising both cpu and memory speed together.

Most people raise either memory speed or cpu speed first to see what they can get safely.
Memory speed is more complicated because you may have to adjust the timings as well as voltages.
Once you get the safe limit on one or the other you can start rasing both together since you now have an idea what each component needs.

At lower fsb speeds a 20 mhz+ jump isnt so bad but a 5-10 mhz increase is more usual to check, you dont want to have to do too many cmos resets.
