Lets just say that I'm the wrong side of twenty-one..

When I attempt to alter the DDR2/DDR3 Overvoltage Control and the (G)MCH Overvoltage Control, I get a warning about damaging my CPU. Is this OK?

Ahh, Gotcha now!

No worries, I may be older than you!

Yes those warnings are normal, just in place for those who may not know what they are changing is all. Safety precaution is all, you can ignore them.. Unless you are setting some Crazy voltages

I’m now running at 3Ghz. Have been for about three hours playing X3 Terran Conflict.

I got there by altering CPU Host Clock Control to ‘Enable’, CPU Host frequency to 300, PDI Express Frequency to 100, Performance Enhance to ‘Standard’, System Memory Multiplier to 2.50 that brought my Memory Frequency to 750.

The only other thing I altered was setting the System Voltage Control to ‘Auto’. It was set to ‘Manual’. When it was set to ‘Manual’ there was a flashing message on the BIOS screen saying ‘System Voltage NOT Optimised’. As soon as I altered the System Voltage Control to ‘Auto’ the warning message disappeared.

My CPU temps at idle have increased to 2 degrees. I don’t know how to check temps whilst playing a game.

I think 3Ghz is as far as I want to go for my first time. Going from 2.66Ghz to 3Ghz is about 12.78% overclock. I’ll let it run for a few days and see how it goes.

Check voltage at EasyTune Monitor tab to make sure nothing is over voltage too much.
33FSB with CPU Ratio 9 and 2.40 memory multiplier may be even better if they are stable for you, and it's still 3GHz.

Well auto voltages is not suggested, but with a smaller overclock you may be ok. Bit if you push it further then you should set your own voltages.

This guide will help you with all of that, it was written for your chipset >>

That overclock you have shouldnt be any strain at all.
You probably can as chilke says set your fsb/host frequency to 333 mhz ,your cpu multiplier to x9 and leave the memory multiplier at 2.4 and so get your memory back to 800mhz.

You probably wouldnt notice the difference but its an idea.

As lsd says thats a lowish overclock but the thing is you are now running your cpu around the performance level of someone who buys a dell with an E8400 in it perhaps a little less ,due to cache amounts etc,but its free!.
If you decide to go much further tho you may have to start playing around with voltages for the cpu.

On another note your gx card is still pretty good ..better than mine in standard form.
Mines overclocked by about 10% approx.
Overclocking your own would probably have an even more dramatic effect on games than oclocking the cpu.

Rivatuner is very good.
Heres a guide to using it which is kind of funny if you can understand the english accent :0

The guide itself isnt super ,, better to leave shader and gpu linked i think and try to overclock the gx memory first ,but it gives u some idea what to do.
