    Default Ga-ep45-extreme usb

    Greetings,

I have this motherboard and have been booting off a USB device that I have inside the computer. A few weeks ago I returned the boot device because I thought something was wrong with it because it would not longer show up and DMI would hang. Today I have the same problem, tried to reset the BIOS to defaults and it does not see the device. I also am having a problem with my USB Logitech keyboard has become very erradic and I am suspicous of the motherboard. The motherboard is less that 9 months old. Does anyone have any suggestions.

    Thanks
    Bob

Several months ago I had USB issues recognizing USB drives. My USB keyboard and mouse worked OK.
I switched to PS/2 keyboard and mouse and then deleted all USB devices in windows device manager. When I rebooted, all USB devices were properly installed and fully functional.
Note: My system is running w2k pro (sp4). Hope this helps.

    Greetings All,

I have a new twist on this issue. This morning I woke up and started the computer and again it did not work. I brought up the BIOS screen and reset it to the optimal defaults and then rebooted the computer. I reconfigured the system and was able to see and set the USB device as the primary boot device. I am wondering because I have written down the exact setting of a running system and have also saved them to F12. I have tried to reset the BIOS to optimal settings and then load F12 "my settings", but the only thing that seems to work is reset the BIOS and reconfigure.

    Thanks
    Bob

Do you have Legacy USB Storage Detect set to ENABLED?
Did you possibly over-write your saved bios profile?
Try loading your saved bios profile and then confirm that all of the bios settings are correct.

Why are you booting to USB? Just wondering as it is very slow to use for a OS

I agree, maybe you wrote/saved over your old saved BIOS profile that you thought was working? Make a new one, name it something different and save it again. Then try this one again to be sure it works.

Also be sure you are starting from Optimized Defaults and not Fail Safe, I know you mentioned that you were I was just saying that in case you maybe did mean fail safe. So if you did/do start with optimized then just ignore this

Some USB Devices will not always work with the boards, you may need to enable or disable Legacy USB Storage detect, which of course could cause you issues disabled since you are booting from the drive.
