Thread: GA-G31M-S2L won't overclock

    Default GA-G31M-S2L won't overclock

I updated my GA-G31M-S2L BIOS to F10a the other day, and since then (or possibly before - I'm not sure), I've been unable to overclock. I have a C2D E7400 CPU, and no matter what I set the FSB to, it boots up at the standard 2.8GHz.

I'm mystified; I loaded BIOS versions F5 through F9, and they make no difference.

I have overclocked perfectly successfully before; I had the E7400 at 3.4GHz, and I've overclocked my E6300, E5300 and E5200 without any issues.

Also, the option for hardware virtualization in the BIOS settings does not show up, and hardware virtualization does not work.

    Any ideas?

E7400 does not have virtualization technology.
    Have you tried clearing CMOS?

Oh, wow. Can't believe Intel doesn't have VT-x in the E7400 (except in the latest release, which I'm guessing I don't have).

How should I clear the CMOS? I haven't done that in years.

I find it very easy to believe, Intel does whatever it can so you keep upgrading it's products.

First you need to find where CLR_CMOS jumper is located on your board, then read the second part of this post.

Thank you for the help; I'll give that a go tonight.
