Speed is not always better than tight timings, it depends for sure. Sometimes a tight set of 1333 can beat a loose set at 1600.

12GB of ram though is always going to be an issue with speed or tighter timings, same as with 8GB or so in older boards.

    Hi

I want 12GB for image processing where you want to avoid paging to disk, ideally I’d like 24GB!

Looking at Corsair forum on XS getting to 12Gb with 6 x 2GB and over clocking is problematic. I can’t find any 3 x 4GB solutions.

    Hi

Thanks for that, these all look expensive and slow.

I decided to defer the 12GB and get the system running at 20x200 so a true 4GHz with DRAM at 1600.

I hope I now have a Prime95 stable system, please see below. Iím now waiting for a Corsair H50 and some new case fans, then maybe Iíll try going to Turbo!

take a look at this , saw it on tom's
Test Results: Latency, Frequency And Bandwidth - Review Tom's Hardware : DDR3 On A Budget: Six 6 GB Memory Kits

I use the OCZ reviewed in the article and have yet to see them go above 1650 in my system , tom's got them upto 1780. Pretty good for a 1333 set... even better, the crucial 1333's got upto 1961 ! Thats the ones without any pretty heatsink on them.

Look good BookIT, if you get errors I would suspect maybe more QPI/Vtt

And yes as seen above, "slow ram" is just what the spec's say is all. Most 1600Mhz ram is really 1333, same as with DDR2 1066 ram is really 800

I just ran a validation at 2143Mhz with a 1600Mhz Mushkin kit a few nights ago, and have had several 1600Mhz kits over 2000 without issues

    Hi.
I cant get this damn thing to work :(

Trying to OC at a mere 160*21 (with turbo) and cant avoid getting random reboots...
No bsod, not under load, just random reboots ... Really frustrating ..

I dont want a higher OC just a stable one @160bclk so ram is @1600MHz.

Here are the settings i use...

    Advanced CPU Features:
    CPU Clock Ratio ................................ [20x]
Intel(R) Turbo Boost Tech .................. [Enabled]
    CPU Cores Enabled ............................ [All]
    CPU Multi Threading .......................... [Enabled]

    CPU Thermal Monitor ......................... [Enabled]
    CPU EIST Function ............................ [Enabled]
    Virtualization Technology ................... [Disabled]
    Bi-Directional PROCHOT ..................... [Enabled]

    Uncore & QPI Features:
    QPI Link Speed .............................. x36
    Uncore Frequency .......................... 21
    Isonchronous Frequency ..................[Enabled]

    Standard Clock Control:
Base Clock (BCLK) Control ................ [Enabled]
    BCLK Frequency (MHz) .....................160
PCI Express Frequency (MHz) ........... [auto]

    C.I.A.2 [Disabled]

    Advanced Clock Control:
    CPU Clock Drive ..............................[800mV]
PCI Express Clock Drive ................... [900mV]
    CPU Clock Skew ............................. [0ps]
    IOH Clock Skew ............................. [0ps]

    Advanced DRAM Features:
    Performance Enhance ...................... [Turbo]
Extreme Memory Profile (X.M.P) ......... [Enabled]
System Memory Multiplier (SPD) ........ [10]
DRAM Timing Selectable (SPD) .......... [auto]

    Advanced Voltage Control:

    CPU
    Load Line Calibration ................. [Enabled]
    CPU Vcore ............................. 1.125 - 1.131

Everything else missing, on default or auto.
With xmp enabled i get 1.65v and 8-8-8-24 timings just fine with no manual tuning.

I think it might have to do with the voltages, any advise would be appreciated.
On the screenshot you can see how easytune reads the auto option in all the other voltages...

    Thanx in advance.

    Hi Bookit,

If you have succes, please share with us then. :0)

I was on PM, LSD I think :-)

So 12 GB is really different beast, still not optimized perfomance there, I hope you get better luck.

What is worked for me is on 6 gb 1890, around 20000 mb/s.
And 3990 with very low voltages. (4.2 with voltage up)
But on 12gb there are problems on rams and on the cpu too.

    Now
I can't leave 3990 with any voltages, because I'm getting strange bsod codes like
    000000FF
    00000033
    00000050.

But what is work on 12 gb is 1650 8-8-8-2. around 3800 cpu
(207bclk is the max here, after than unstable)

DON'T FORGET TO RASIE YOUR TRFC settings ! more than 120 at least

Now my memory tweaks halted until not set and understood (at least a little: -) the LSD's memory timings.

if i were u id disable loadline calibration it doesnt do much and set cpu vcore to normal those are my settings anyway leave qpi and uncore multi on auto also set qpi voltage to 1.2
