Thread: EX58-UD5 Teaming utility?

  1. #1

    Default EX58-UD5 Teaming utility?

My motherboard has got Dual NIC and its advertised in many areas (like on the box and in the manual) and online that it can do teaming, however I can't find the Utility anywhere, not online or on my motherboard disc which came with the motherboard.

Does anyone know if its bundled with a certain NIC driver or if theres a link to the correct teaming utility for my motherboard?

What OS and drivers do you use.
I only have the option to bridge the two (when selecting both connections) which isnt what im after.

You must have the correct ISP Connection or INTRA-Net and you must also have the proper router/modem as well.

Teaming does not combine normal Internet connections. Here is a few posts about this feature with some further info >>

Yeah I know this. I really only want it for LAN level not Internet level, my 30 megabit internet connection is far too slow to utilise dual gigabit aggregation, but my two 8 port gigabit switches are fast enough to and do.
Thing is though, my switch is an Asus 8 port gigabit switch, and Ive had the EX48-DS5 motherboard run teaming on this switch model without trouble, but what im saying is, theres no supplied utility like there was with the EX48-DS5, Its not a feature the OS is expected to support natively, its expected that considering its an advertised feature, that the manufacturer would include the utility like they did with the x48 motherboard that had the same dual NICs.

Nevermind, I just found it online in the second google result for 'gigabyte teaming utility x48' at toms hardware someone was kind enough to share the utility out.

I actually expect the OS to support it and not the NIC manufacturer. What If I have different NICs from different manufacturers?
For my best knowledge Linux has driver that's NIC independent.

I would never expect it to work with two different kind of NICs (actual teaming).

Ive ditched using it already anyway, the realtek v.1 teaming and vlan utility is in a single word; crap. Its buggy and has an overly basic interface, no updating feature and for some reason when I enable Teaming or disable Teaming it makes my Vista 64 Product activation screw up forcing me to reactivate.

I have no problem with a thrid party utility peforming the teaming and not the os, but the current utility is utter rubbish, so its another nice feature just gone to waste. (much like my raid.)
