    Ken what settings are you using for 460 FSB I never see them posted. You may be upaganist a fsb wall. Mighr try a fsb of 461 or so. But please post your 460 template.

    Conners,
    Per your request, not much changed from last post of settings. The "to Auto" comments are what I changed to get rid of the blue screens. After putting all the memory stuff to "Auto" the system ran Prime95 for a couple of hours @FSB 460 (3.91GHz) before hanging. Like a dummy I had the screen saver turned on and lost what had failed but at least it was not the #$%^ blue screen. I'll run it again and make sure I can see what failed. But it sure seems like memory setting we are using hit the wall around FFSB 460.

    FOOD for thought Ken.

    Your settings look really good to me but we may need to tweak the reference voltages.

    Why don't we raise the FSB to 461, loosen these up till you get a stable
    OC.

    Make the timing changes all at one time. Then one at a time CPU Ref then test. Ask your self was that better or worse., if better leave it. If worse add one more notch and ask your self the better or worse question. Then do the same thing with MCH Reference and ICH I/O core.

    I agree with Chike's approach to lower the memory multiplier. Right now you're probably near the maximum memory speeds that will be stable.
    If the 2.00B multiplier isn't working for you, try using 2.00D. Some have found it's easier to get their systems stable using the D-strap. Using lower memory speeds will allow you to eventually use tighter memory timings and your memory performance will be similar to using higher memory speeds with looser timings.

    With my system, 459MHz was the highest I could go when using the 2.40B setting with my 2x2GB Mushkins. When I tested with my 2x1GB Ballistix 800MHz memory, my system was stable with 492 x 2.40 = 1181MHz memory speeds. My maximum 7x cpu multiplier with the higher memory speeds was inferior to my current higher FSB and lower memory speeds.

    You might have better results with slightly higher Cpu PLL, Cpu termination, and MCH Core settings, but as Conners said, you need to make changes one at time.

    I'm about ready to throw in the towel. I have all the memory settings at AUTO and have tried the 2.00D and 2.00B settings and all the system wants to do is blue screen after a few <5 minutes of OCCT. I'm using 461 FSB all the other stuff is what is posted for Conners - except I changed the ICH I/O to 1.50V . At least with the auto memory settings the BIOS does not complain when I switch the Memory Multiplier.

    I just had a weak moment and went back to the old 450 FSB stable tested settings to make sure the system still works - it does! I think it is time to regroup on one path.

    My approach to overclocking is to first find my memory's limits using relatively low cpu speeds.
    Next I find my cpu's limits by using the 2.0 memory multiplier to keep memory speeds out of the equation.

    Right now your testing the limits of your cpu and ram at the same time. This is the most difficult way to go and is NOT recommended.
    To make it even harder, as you approach 3.9 - 4.0GHz or higher, the Q9550 starts to want some reference volt tweaking. If you read both of Conners Q9550 threads, you'll see that there is a lot of trial and error in trying for higher overclocks.
    Prospector also had a difficult time with his Q9550 thread.

    If you want to let it rest for a while, enjoy your system at its current 3.8GHz stable speed.

    After 2 hours and 29 minutes I'm back at it. It would seem to me that memory is not the issue since the system ran fine at 1080 and yet when I raised the FSB to 460 the Blue Screens came no matter what memory memory settings I used! So, I upped the the FSB to 455 just to see where the failures started and guess what I got the old Blue Screen after a few minutes of OCCT. I upped the CPU Reference, MCH Reference and ICH Core one notch .812, .812, and 1.2 respectively. Ran OCCT for 16+ minutes and got a Core0 error. I have upped the Vcore to 1.325 and am off and running OCCT again. As far as finding the memory limit I thought that is what profJim gave me for "free" way back when I would have been happy at 3.8GHz?

    The memory information I shared was an example, not a guarantee. I hope this didn't cause any confusion.
    The memory limits on my system might not apply in your case; you might have better memory or your cpu might allow you to go higher than I could.

    You'll have to find the right combination of voltages and reference voltages will probably have to be tweaked somewhat. Keep really good notes on what changes result in specific changes. In his X48 thread, Salty posted a great table that showed what combinations he used and how his results changed his test results, for better or for worse. I mention this as an example, as his hardware setup and settings wouldn't help you.

    It would be great if there were simple plug-in formulas for what works with every setup....no such luck.
