Noctuas made no diff to temp. )-:

Will try washer mod. Should I make effort to get any particular brand of thermal paste? This may be board out of case job as i don't think mounting plate will stay put.

    Strange.
Are both fans blowing towards the rear of the case with your push/pull setup?
Are you going to check that the cpu heatsink is fully seated and properly installed?
What are your room temperatures when stress testing?

The washer is just to apply more preasure I believe, putting small washers under or above the springs may be just the same.

    Prof:
    A) Yes
    B) Yes, unlike Intel heatsink, fairly foolproof.
    C) 20 Degrees Celsius usually.

Heatsink easily turned and heat transfer compound may have been too old.

The washer mod trick helps with making better contact and securing the heatsink better so that it doesn't twist as easily.

Obviously rubbish, because with washer and "Star Thermal Compound" found in mobo box temps are higher. Still, ran LinX and 4.1GHz profile with max of 83c core and 80c cpu, but no errors

At 4.2 with lower temps errors were plentiful.

So even if temps are out of order, 4.2 being difficult.

Will get some new thermal compound in morning before I go through that again.

The Corsair H50 is very good. Not sure if it's worth getting if you already have a TRUE, but it's up to you.

There are two ways to do the washer mod. The first, which I have done is to use a 3mmx 1.25" washer and place it between the top of the TRUE base plate and the X bracket. The other mod requires 4 rubber washers. The rubber washers need to be placed on the uprights of the backplate before you push it up to the motherboard. this holds the back plate further away from the board and causes the same higher mounting pressure as the other mod, maybe actually a bit more even etc. I recommend you try the single washer first. Don't use metal washers for the 4 washer method as you may short something.

Here are pictures of both mods:

The rubber washers in the back plate picture look to me like the kind you get with a Lian Li case to fix to the anti vibration HDD cage. They're about 4mm.

Wouldn't recommend even to try the rubber washers. The backbplate was not made for nothing, they could just have used muts instead if they thought it isn't needed, it is made to take the presure instead the board, with the rubber washer all the preasure is on the board.
