Oh Chike, don't I know. I'm getting some more fans, and will be leaving HW Monitor on I promise. I am not considering 24/7 operation of anything higher than this at this time.

Considering price premium for corsair (and 4x1Gig non-performance before 2x2Gig set) maybe not corsair again.
I 'll have a closer look at the team - the g-skill was already on the radar. (thanks to psycho101)

I got 4gig and Vista64 because I thought it would be good for Photoshop and games.

G.skill is good, Not sure about the exact Team's I listed but I do know they all clock very well, often Micron D9 IC used in them but you would need to look a bit deeper into that if you wanted to choose based on my thoughts there.

I'd get G.Skill's if it were me

"What do I have to gain"

By gain i meant fps, 3dMarks, Super Pi times, that sort of thing ...

    Pick of the price search:
    G.SKILL PI 5-5-5-15 4GB (2GB x 2) PC2-8800 (DDR2-1100) $101.00 inc.GST Shipping Cost: $32.00

There are others at $96, but I've already experienced frustrating deliveries from those "SuperCheapies" before. Order them, and see how long I wait, or pay $159 for known and quicker?

You'd probably see more of a gain in FPS etc by dropping the multiplier and OCing your FSB a bit more. If you go 533*8 you'll get 1066 on the RAm at 2.00D/B and see much more of a performance improvement (at least synthetically) over 444*9.5 @1066. Even with something like 495*8.5 @ DDR-990 you should see an improvement over your current settings. Worth a go.

For me, and it's only personal taste, I'd only buy high clocking RAM if I were going to be doing alot of benchmarking and attempting more than 533 FSB etc. For me, the difference between 4-4-4-12 @ DDR-800 and 5-5-5-15 @ 1066 was a mere 4 FPS extra on the minimum frame rate. This gap can increase if using dual GPU's etc.

I haven't got better fans yet.

Yes, 533. That would fit in with the trend. I'm looking at your fans in yr sig, and thinking how does that work at 23c? I'm sub-tropical here, with summer approaching. 77c at full load.

I don't think I'll try it right now though. Noctua fans and hopefully better ram. I'm not necessarily out for the ultimate performance straight away. Playing with it, learning from it. I'm probably weird, but I'm enjoying this testing out routine.

Depending on your typical ambient in summer and if you have A/C you may or may not be ok. You will ofc be running lower Vcore than me, seeing as you have an E8xxx. Also with 533 FSB, you may need a little more Vcore than you have now, but not too much, maybe 1-2 ticks. Your temps hopefully would be about the same, with a bit of a temp increase on the northbridge, maybe a tough more MCH core, but hopefully nothing over 1.26-1.3V.

I'm at +.2 now for MCH. If 1.25 is base MCH I'm on 1.45 now? No?
    Or it could be lowered?

    >35c outside with no aircon for most of november, december, january, february. Thats in La Ninya (A Pacific Ocean current cycle) years. In El Ninyo years cyclones can come down the coast and we get extreme rain last half of summer. Weather guys say we're sliding back into a La Ninya cycle, so drought inland and long hot summer expected. Hotter for Nimrod.
