    You forgot the CPU HS

Post your current settings using the template in this post or the one below.
A screen capture of MemSet main and spd(click spd) windows, perheps along with a memory benchmark (Everest/MaxxMEM2) would also be helpful.

What core temperatures you get with Prime95/OCCT?

    Core temps are
    Low High
    31 57
    34 54
    38 53
    35 51

Can have a higher rpm of the case fans and bring down all temp 2c but I prefer a lower noise...
Have to tweak the memory part...

Good temps for 3.7GHz. Try running IBT/LinX with max memory and see what results (GFlops) you get to make sure you have enough vcore.
Watch the temps, because those test cause much more heat than Prime95/OCCT, 10c+.
Run memory bench, and SuperPI mode before you tweak to see the benefit you get from tweaking.

Those reference voltages are perfectly fine on auto. I would manually set ICH and ICH Core to stock though.

As the Q9650 is guaranteed to be an E0 stepping, you may be able to get 4GHz+ on reasonable voltages if your cooler handles it well.

Personally I'd forget the RAM tweaking for now, as it makes little over all difference any way. Try for 4GHz. There are a couple of threads here, that although based on Q9550 E0's will offer a base of settings from which to work.

If your RAM timings are set correctly it's now just a case of altering your RAM multi to keep the sticks at or slightly under their rated speed. The difference between for example DDR-1066 and DDR-980 is unnoticeable in all but RAM benchmarks.

Adjust Vcore as necessary. You may want to set everything for 4GHz and start with a 1.30-1.35Vcore with LLC on and then tune it down later. This will save many, many failed prime95/OCCT runs later down the line. Also increase CPU Termination as required. Up to 1.4V is fine, but I guestimate you'll need no more than 1.34-1.36V at 4GHz.

You may find that if stability is lacking with all possible combinations of Vcore and VTT (CPU Term, then altering MCH and CPU References may be needed. Quads in my experience like more reference volys and dual cores like less. Setting CPU Termination temporarily to stock, then increasing CPU Ref to 0.785V may bring stability. Try 2 values above and 2 values below 0.760, remembering to set CPU term to 1,2V while changing refs, then increasing it back up when done. If tuning CPU Ref fails, keep the best value and try tuning MCH ref using the same method.

A simple increase in CPU Ref to 0.785 @ 1.2VTT gave me stability at 3.4GHz with my Q8200, which was previously stuck at 3.2GHs, regardless of Vcore etc. 3.4GHs may not sound like a high clock but it's pretty good for a Q8200 with only a 7x multi. Q8200's are bottom of the pile quads and are likely binned pretty low by intel, ie they're the ones that don't make the grade for better CPU's.

Add your hardware list to your forum signature, including:
    1) motherboard and bios versions
    2) memory module model # and link to your ram's specifications
    3) psu model # and wattage rating
    4) etc

Cpu Termination is too high, 1.20 - 1.22 should be fine.
    MCH Core = 1.24 - 1.26 should work.
Static tRead Value = 9 (for now) will give you better memory performance.

Memory tweaking should wait until your system has passed extended stability testing. Leave the Advanced Timing Control settings on AUTO for now.

This post has recommended initial bios settings and additional recommendations.
Post your updated bios settings and testing/stability results for additional suggestions.

hey thanks for setting me straight on setting my voltages to auto not normal. i took your advice myself and im finally stable at 3.08 ghz instead of 4.2 like i was.
so how far are you overclocked on your q9650?

We're concerned with getting systems stable, we don't deal with owner stability.

Have you run multiple extended stability tests with Prime95 or OCCT? What are your cpu temperatures when running under full load?

Getting to 3.9 - 4.0GHz for the Q9550/Q9650 isn't too difficult. It gets a lot harder trying to get your system stable at 4.1GHz or higher.

Post your current (3.80GHz?) stable settings and we can help you with a higher stable overclock.
