    Default EP45-UD3P questions

    Hi, I have some questions regarding BIOS setup for my system.

    I currently have a system running with the BIOS configuration posted below. When I try to play a video game, COD:WaW for instance, my video card locks up after about a 30 seconds of play. At first I attributed it to a bad video card, but after reading many forum posts (here and elsewhere), I am wondering if my system RAM could be a cause of the problem. Could somebody make some suggestions regarding my BIOS configuration and how I could optimize performance and possibly solve the problem? I am not looking to overclock, per-se, but if it will fix things then I'm open to trying it.

    I tried running OCCT for my GPU and it aborts after 1 minute or so due to an nvddlmkm restart, if that means anything to anybody.

    Please let me know if you need more information regarding system specifications.

    This could be a problem with the NVidia driver or BIOS settings.
    I suggest you begin with testing the memory with memtest86+ (can be found in the programs sticky at the top of the forum,) and then OCCT CPU:OCCT Large Data set.
    Let memtest86+ run for 6+ passes or untill it fails, OCCT for 1 hour or untill it fails.
    If the system prove to be unstable we'll try to help you stabilize it.

    It is advised to beging with oprimized defaults befor making any changes, your CPU/PCI-E clock drive settings indicate you may have began with failsafe defaults, was there a reason for that?
    Also your memory is rated 2.0-2,1v if I am not mistaken, was the 2.2v needed to get you running?

    A lot of cmos bios voltages are on auto
    Should be actual numbers then stabilzing with testing apps.

    Ok. I changed CPU/PCI-E clock drive settings and DRAM voltages per your recommendation (new BIOS settings pasted below). The system runs as it had before; no change.

    I ran OCCT Large Data for 1 hour and had no errors.

    I 've gone through 2 passes of Memtest86 and have had no errors so far (I'm going to let it keep testing).

    Tyreman, what would you recommend me changing as far as voltage? If I understand correctly, AUTO will default to the preset voltages in the BIOS, and those seem to work. Should I be overvolting things? I know that DRAM voltage needed to be upped per G.SKILL specs, what else should I do?

    I've initiated an EAR with EVGA to get a new video card, but I would like to be sure that I've tested mobo settings as far as I can (safely) go.

    I appreciate you all giving such individualized support to me!

    I was thinking video driver which is the software for the video card not the card itself, even though that might be possible too. Check with EVGA for thair latest drivers for your card.
    Interesting you have 8GB of ram and didn't have to change MCH Core voltage, but you are running only at DDR-800.
    I don't know the OCCT GPU test, never used it, but after memtest try your video games gain.
    Did you load omptimized defaults?

    I do have the most up to date drivers (190.62 WHQL).

    If I try to up the MCH Core voltage, I get stuck in the "infinte BIOS reboot loop", but that's without changing my mem frequency. I tried at first to use the RAM at 1066 (default setting) but was having an awful time getting it stable. From what I hear there isn't much of a difference in speeds at 800 from 1066, so I am content with leaving it as-is.

    For this reason, optimized BIOS defaults make my system less stable, but I try to set as much as I can to what the optimized specs are.

    EDIT: I upped the MCH Voltage to 1.200V, no change.

    Some memory mudules or memory/board combinayions need less MCH Core, could be the case. If video games still freez try MCH Core 1.05v and see if there's a change. Few users had it down to 0.95v to achive stability.
    Loading optimized defaults is just a starting point for the settings you won't later change or some hidden settings we don't see.

    Ok I'll try a few tweaks.

    Hidden settings you say? And I thought that these settings were enough to deal with! I'll reload optimized as well and see what happens...

    But for example, I try to load a saved BIOS profile from an older BIOS version, there's a warning and I choose to load. Though the BIOS settings look the same, the reported CPU speed is 166x9.5 1.57GHz
