Default GA-EX85-UD4P Only posting full ram

hey tweaks, im having a problem using anything but the default bios setting when clocking ram. I am using a 3x2gb pack of Corsair XMS3 DDR3 Ram. The default setting puts the ram at 1066. In this setting i can see the full 6gb in bios and the machine runs smoothly. However, when i apply the XMP profile or manually change the settings to get to 1600 it only shows 4gb in bios and i can only access up to 4gb in windows. Ive tested each stick individually, and when ram is occupying two slots (1 and 3) it behaves normally at 1600, but when all three dimms are inserted into (1,3,5) and the memory is clocked to 1600 im only getting 4 of 6. I built an identical machine for a friend and its not having this issue.

here is what i have tried :
    changing ram timings,
    changing dram votages
    changintg upi voltages,
    clearing cmos,
removing the cmos battery and reinstalling
removing all but system hard drives + non essential connections/cards
    re-seating the processor x2

waiting to hear back from gigabyte tech support cause i think it might be a memory controller issue or a bad slot but hoping someone here may be able to shed some light. Thanks!

    I have a UD4P so mabey i can help.

There are newer bios vesions for your board than F8 .. i'm sure a moderator can advice if you need to upgrade or not

Have you tried loading optimized defaults with all the memory installed ?
then save and exit ..go back into bios and set up your settings.

*note this will change any pages you have changed so redo them as you want. if your running a raid then you will have to reset to raid ..save and exit, go back into bios and reset the boot order to your raid disk.*

I tried loading the optimized defaults and now it wont boot at all into anything but the 1066 configuration. Ive gone from being able to see 4 of 6 gb at 1600mhz to not being able to boot. weirdddd.

Is this the model number of your memory ? TR3X6G1600C9

you will need to set Dramm volts at 1.66v for this to work at 1600
try that if you havn't allready

and how are you setting it to 1600 ? can you explain what settings you change to do this and what you have left on auto.

The loss of one channel is due to incorrect QPI/Vtt and Vdimm relationship, some CPU's need this to be closer together, others need it further apart, and some it does not matter.

I do suggest you update to either F9c BIOS or the latest F10d >>
    http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/giga...st-bios-28441/

Please use Qflash to update, here is a guide >>
    http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/bios...h-guide-27576/

Now, you will need to find your own setting that work and this can take some testing and tweaking. I DO NOT Advise you use XMP because there is NO WAY some pre-programmed settings can be correct for your CPU.

Once you update your BIOS please grab a template from the link in my signature and give us your full settings that fail when you try to run 1600Mhz and I will advise back. Often the loss of the channel is due to incorrect QPI/Vtt amount more than anything else, and normally this is due to not enough actually

Thank you for the help guys, Ive flashed the bios to version F10d. Im still getting only 4gb when running the ram at 1600mhz. Now in the bios under channel A im getting dashes (-) in place of memory timings when booting at 1600. Ive tried adjusting the Qpi/Vtt up to 1.52. I just dont get it because ive got my buddies machine running at 4.00 with ram at 1600 and no problems at all.

qpi needs to be higher than 1.52 set it at 1.22000 to start and set ram volt to 1.66000 for 1.65 in bios, set cpu volts on normal and try from there oops youve set qpi at 1.5volts? thats too high try 1.22

Try these .. not sure what you have you Uncore Frequency set too , it should be 2x your memory multi or 2x +1 +2 . At 24x it should show 3200.

    Uncore & QPI Features:
    QPI Link Speed .............................. x36
    Uncore Frequency .......................... (4.8) ? (set this too 24x)
    Isonchronous Frequency ..................[Enabled]

    CPU
    Load Line Calibration ................. [Disabled]
    CPU Vcore ............................... [Auto]
QPI/VTT Voltage 1.150v ............ (Start at 1.200v slowly increase if not stable)
    CPU PLL 1.800v .......................

    Dramm volts to ........1.66v

Unicore was high from all the rummaging and I missed it. Set it back to 3200 and tried 3400 and 3600 with the same issue, left it it at 3400 when testing the qpi. Re:tweaked thru qpi/vtt from 1.2000 all the way up to 1.5200 with ram at 1.66v. no luck. While i was going up incrementally twice while on 1.2200 and 3.0000 channel C would also fail to load leaving me with 2gb, with a reboot i would see it again. Such a stubborn little 534mhz.

you should just set everything on auto exept raise bclk to achieve 3.2 set ram volt to 1.66 qpi to 1.2 and cpu to normal leave everything else on auto you should be able to clock to 3.2 quite easy
