    Default EP45-DS3R, Q6600, G.Skill DDR2 1000 O/C

Hi everyone. I just found out about Tweaktown. I'm very excited to be here. I'm having a bugger of a time getting my rig stable (see sig). I think I'm one of the few lucky enough to get a dog proc.

Atm, my bios (F11b) is at the optimized default settings. I figure it's best to start at default & work my way up. I know my mobo does not boot above 425 fsb. I guess it shouldn't matter with my Q6600 (1.325 vid). I'd be quite happy at 9x400.

Basically my attitude is to get her o/c'd & stable this weekend or I'm going to buy a Q9550 while they are still available. Thanks for your patience & advice.

This post will get you started with basic bios settings for a stock system.
Read the suggestions in the post for the detailed information that we'll need to help you.
Include a link to your ram's specifications from the manufacturer's website and include the model # of your memory.
Include additional model/version numbers for your hardware components in your forum signature.

I'm toying with the idea of upgrading to a Q9550 now that the P55 mobos and new i7/i5/i3 processors are coming to market.
Will the current 775 processors drop in price? How much? How soon?

You did a nice job with your forum signature.

Just so you know the P45 board WILL indeed post well above 425 FSB, like around 600+ FSB actually.

Your processor may not work much above 450-500 though, but the board will for sure. It is P43 that has a limit around 425 FSB

I'd grab the 9950 if you have the cash, you will be able to clock it much higher and it is a faster CPU overall anyway

9x400 may or may not work for you, not all Q6600's will do 3.6 without higher voltages than you may be ready to use.

Try this, and if it continually fails back down to 3.4Ghz using 8x425

    Thanks for responding.

@ profJim: Microcenter has the Q9550's on sale for $159 in store only. That's about $60 less than Newegg atm.

@ Lsdmeasap: I couldn't get past the post screen with the settings you provided. Below are thew settings I am using. This gets me into Windows but I am far from stable.

Update. 4x900 just wouldn't cooperate. I couldn't run prime even at 1.55v. I decided not to go higher.

I changed the fsb to 8x413 @ 1.525 vcore. Any higher on the fsb & I got hard lockups. I was able to pass IBT, 10 passes, small FFT. I'm going to run the same 10 passes with very high ram testing to see if it still passes. After that, I can work on lowering the vcore.

    A couple of things
600 fsb you wont be seeing with quads..not in real world .Some p35 boards have shown around 500 fsb
The ds3 ,i dont know about personally.. but from what ive seen here and other forums, it doesnt have the performance of the UD3.

    the memory..mine has a 1.8-1.9v 4-4-4-12 800mhz profile but needs 2.2 v in bios for 1000mhz at 5-5-5-15(just for information).

q6600 ive seen 1.45 V being good for 3.6 and its probably ok for 60 nm..

Test your memory by keeping the cpu speed low..and fsb mine will do around 1050 mhz with a multiplier..Test to see how high yours will go with a lowish cpu/fsb speed and remain stable.
If it only just stays stable at 1000 -1050 chances are that when you bring cpu/fsb speed up it will need even lower speed to be stable.

see how well you can do on an x8 multiplier on the cpu also

I don't expect any where near 600 fsb. I will try your memory test suggestion in the morning. I can get the vcore down to 1.51875 from 1.525. The highest fsb I can reach at this voltage is 8x415. At 8x417 I get a blue screen. Not sure if I should up the voltage any higher than 1.525?

I do believe my cpu is the problem. I used this cpu on an IP35-E previously and I hit a wall around the same fsb setting.

Do you have LLC Enabled? Looks like you don't, I would try 9x425 again with LLC on so you don't have such a huge drop in voltages

It very well could be your CPU itself, but I would think it can do at least 9x425.

You know, I've read alot about LLC. I don't believe I have that setting. Can't seem to find it.
