    Default Help overclocking EP45-Extreme

    <!-- google_ad_section_start --> Hi everybody,

Since this is my first post here, I'm going to introduce myself a bit.
I'm french - so please excuse my <strike>english</strike> president -, I'm overclocking my computer for 2 years now. I was the proud owner of a Maximus Formula and an E8500 clocked at 4.3Ghz under watercooling.

Unfortunatly, my maximus died, so, after I had read a lot of reviews, I decided to buy a Gigabyte EP45-Extreme on the following basis: High FSB stability (at least 500, I need 470), easy to O/C, complete, good voltages stability.

I'm currently a bit disapointed: I just can't add ONE Mhz on my FSB.
I first tried to fix each voltages cause I don't like having them at AUTO. Then, I just changed FSB from 333 to 334 starting from defaults settings.

The fact is, rebooting the computer after changing values, it crashes, and BIOS is re-loaded using defaults settings (for frequencies and voltages only, not for the other options as splash screen or boot drive order...)

I just can't belive my motherboard can't take 1 single Mhz over 333Mhz.
I assume there some kind of parameter I should change, or whatever.

I already sent that message on another forum, I hope that will help me find the answers I'm looking for.

    Thanks ! <!-- google_ad_section_end --> <!--IBF.ATTACHMENT_1716435-->

    Hi,

It appears I just can't add 0.15V to MCH Core otherwise it crashes and windows never starts.

Is there any protection somewhere in the bios or is my card crap?
Please help me I'm getting very worried :/

Please fill your sugnature with youre system specs including link to your memory specs (links may be disabled so at least part number).
Fill the template in this post or the one below with current settings and post them back.
There are some basic default settings to begin with in this post.
In most cases more MCH Core is needed, in less common cases less is needed, you will have to experiment both.

EDIT: your board may have more options in the MIT sections, please add them.

Here is also a memset screen:

Note that, using ET6 I was able to set FSB at 400Mhz and to increase voltages so it was CPU stable (see screen).
I can set MCH to 1.22 in the bios, not 1.24, same with ET6.
I was not able to boot with the same settings as the one I had in ET6 if I set them directly in the bios (400Mhz and voltages).

Since I'm not able to modify my RAM ratio (either via BIOS or ET6), my computer was memory unstable (1200+ is too high since I don't want to increase DRAM Voltage too much).

Do you think this is a normal situation or should I return the motherboard?

    Thanks you for your help

How do you mean? With 400 FSB you need to use 2.00D/2.66D multiplier, it usually works, 2.00B/2.40B may also be possible.
If there's no need for more MCH no reason to increase it, maybe you don't need it above default at all, or at least not a lot.
Try 400FSB with CPU Ration 7.5 or 8 to get the memory settings stable first.

As I am not familiar with PLL, Vtt, and MCH Reference I'll leave it for someone else to explain them to you.

EDIT: Set Static tRead Value for both channels to 9 or 10 to begin with, then you can try lower it, t should be possible at 400FSB.

If I try to change the ratio, then the computer doesn't start.
Exemple: I want to downclock the memory, as I would do with the processor, and downclock to 800Mhz, then the computer crash.

If I try to do it with ET6, the computer has to reboot, and then it doesn't start.

Basicaly, I should be abble to take my motherboard defaut settings, add 1Mhz to FSB from BIOS, get it at 334, and start the computer without changing anything else. I just don't understand why I can't.

Few things you can try to get it rplaced.
Clear CMOS as explaind in the second part of this post.
Update BIOS if you are not using the latest already.

Here is a CPU-Z screen, I have no processor revision, and no RAM information.
It's abnormal since I had them with my last mb
