    Default Help overclocking my System

Now i tried to overclock for a couple of times, when i increased some things the computer wouldnt start to i am afraid i would fry something, seeing as this is a gigabyte forum and alot of people here are familiar with the components i will list my components and i just want to know what i should chance in the bios to achieve the best most stable overclock i can have with these components, it doesnt have to be something high like 4.0 i just want the best most stable overclock i can have while keeping all the Inter options on like Turbo Boost and Hyper Threading.

    Here are the specs:-

    Bios F8
Intel Core i7 2.66Ghz (DO Stepping)
    12GB DDDR3 1333 Kingston Ram
    Geforce GTX 295
    Gigabyte GA EX58 Extreme Motherboard

No i have the processor water cooled, i have the 3d mercury case, it says in easy tune 6 and the bios my cpu is aat 28C BUT in Hardware Monitor and Real Temp it lists all 4 cores with temps from 30 C to 38C...so is that good or no? Another question other than the overclocking is of the ram, how do i make it work 1333Mhz? The default bios settins automatically sets it at 1066Mhz..how do i make it at its default Mhz?

Any help would be appreciated alot.

different software will list slightly different temps. you can also go into bios and go into the PC health section, it also lists the temperature.

you would be able to easily hit 4ghz on stock on very close to stock voltages. here are the settings that worked for me for 4.0 This kind of overclock is a breeze for these CPUs.

    Advanced CPU Features:
    CPU Clock Ratio ................................ [19x]
Intel(R) Turbo Boost Tech .................. [Enabled]
    CPU Cores Enabled ............................ [All]
    CPU Multi Threading .......................... [Enabled]
CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E) ................... [Disabled]
    C3/C6/C7 State Support .................... [Disabled]
    CPU Thermal Monitor ......................... [Enabled]
    CPU EIST Function ............................ [Disabled]
Virtualization Technology ................... [Enabled] << Disabled if you do not use Vmware or Virtual PC Programs
    Bi-Directional PROCHOT ..................... [Enabled]

    Uncore & QPI Features:
    QPI Link Speed .............................. x36
    Uncore Frequency .......................... 16-18 (Always 2x memory Multi or 2x +1, 2x +2, ect)
    Isonchronous Frequency ..................[Enabled]

    Standard Clock Control:
Base Clock (BCLK) Control ................ [Enabled]
    BCLK Frequency (MHz) ..................... 190
PCI Express Frequency (MHz) ........... [100]

    C.I.A.2 [Disabled]

    Advanced Clock Control:
    CPU Clock Drive ..............................[800mV]
PCI Express Clock Drive ................... [900mV]
    CPU Clock Skew ............................. [0ps]
    IOH Clock Skew ............................. [0ps]

    Advanced DRAM Features:
    Performance Enhance ...................... [Standard]
Extreme Memory Profile (X.M.P) ......... [Disabled]
    System Memory Multiplier (SPD) ........ [8x ] = 1520Mhz
DRAM Timing Selectable (SPD) .......... [Manual]

    Channel A + B + C

    Channel A Timing Settings:
    ##Channel A Standard Timing Control##
    CAS Latency Time ......................8
    tRCD .......................................8
    tRP .........................................8
    tRAS .......................................24

Below values may be left in Auto if you like, generally this is fine. For those users who DO Set advanced timings manually, please see some of my thoughts and findings about these settings and rules here
XtremeSystems Forums - View Single Post - Gigabyte EX58-UD5/Extreme Discussion Thread

    ##Channel A Advanced Timing Control##
tRC ........................................ Auto (Should be = tRAS + tRP or above for stability)
    tRRD ....................................... Auto
tWTR ...................................... Auto (Must be Write to Read Delay/Same Rank - (tWL + 4)
tWR ........................................ Auto 5-12 (Odd # values likely will fail)
    tWTP ....................................... Auto (tWTP Must = tWR + tWL + 4)
tWL ........................................ Auto (tWL Must be CAS Latency -1)
    tRFC ....................................... Auto
    tRTP ....................................... Auto
    tFAW ...................................... Auto
    Command Rate (CMD) ................ 1

    ##Channel A Misc Timing Control##
    Round Trip Latency ................... Auto

    Advanced Voltage Control:

    CPU
Load Line Calibration ................. [Disabled] << Enabled
CPU Vcore ............................... All up to your CPU, do not use Auto. Maybe 1.25-1.4
QPI/VTT Voltage 1.150v ............ 1.28-1.35+ (Some CPU's need 1.35-1.45+, and of course higher QPI above will need more here as well)
    CPU PLL 1.800v ....................... 1.8-1.84

    MCH/ICH
    PCIE 1.500v ........................... 1.5
QPI PLL 1.100v ....................... 1.14-1.24 (Auto may work fine for you)
    IOH Core 1.100v ..................... 1.14-1.24
    ICH I/O 1.500v ....................... 1.5-1.58 (See below)
ICH Core 1.1v ........................ 1.14-1.2 (on the higher end if you have many drives or larger GFX Cards)

    DRAM
DRAM Voltage 1.500v .............. 1.64-1.66 (Some BIOS 1.64 is about 1.63 so you may need 1.66)
    DRAM Termination 0.750v [AUTO]
    Ch-A Data VRef. 0.750v [AUTO]
    Ch-B Data VRef. 0.750v [AUTO]
    Ch-C Data VRef. 0.750v [AUTO]
    Ch-A Address VRef. 0.750v [AUTO]
    Ch-B Address VRef. 0.750v [AUTO]
    Ch-C Address VRef. 0.750v [AUTO]

In my bios, Current System Temp is 35, CPU is 29 and MCH is 35. +5V is 5.0V though. Anyways will give it a shot with the article, thanks for the help again. Since my bios and Easy Tune 6 give me these temps, should i ignore the temps in real temp and Hardware Monitor?

i think realtemp takes temps from the actual cores inside the chip, easytune takes temps from the heatsink or motherboard sensors so both temps are correct but most overclockers take/post temps from the cores
