Thread: CPU FAN pause on POST

Default CPU FAN pause on POST

    Hi,

When turning on computer, all ventillation starts,
but cpu fan stops for a short time.

I'm wondering to know, why is this the normal start process ?
(on older intel chips I thinked that they are not warm when start process, so no ventillation needed for 10-20 sec, until work temperature raise.)

I think it's not kind of bug or bad operation, as I experienced the same thing on older (x48 for example) models too.

But on older intel chips it not caused problem, becuase they was not as much heat generators as i7.

The really problem is that my CPU temp warning set to 90C, and on post there is a warning sound that I passed that 90C.

Thanks for any information or experiences,

One "beep" on post is pefectly normal, I don't think it's the overheating warning sound, it takes a little mroe than a few seconds without the fan spinning to get to 90C.

Does it actually start to spin, then stop and then start again or does it just start a little later than the other fans? If it's the later then I've seen it happen and it's nothing to worry about.

Yes, this is normal. And your CPU is not getting to 90c during the post process at all so no worries

You do mean one beep correct, not several?

I turned the CPU fan speed warning off on my EP45-DS4 as the CPU fan sometimes stops during POST, resulting in a warning buzz from my PCs internal speaker lasting anything up to the point Windows is starting (can be 30s or more).

    Hi,

    Thanks guys for the replies.

Yes, I'm assume that this is a fan warning message.
(because of CPU cooler stopping after start)

I must to check it to be sure about this.

I don't want to turn off any cooler warning, but starting computer in this way if very annoying because it's very loud.
I have installed FP-001 ventillation/thermometer, and I really don't know how, but works over speaker. When computer gives warning sound, it's coming from fp-001, I think, not from mobo's speaker, and this one much louder one:-)
    (and can't be turned off)

So after these, the question is that: Why fan stop to work after start, (temperature ?) and why necessary to hear this warning, if it is a normal operation...

Is this a 3 or 4 pins fan?
If smart fan is set to voltage mode it is possible that the fan does not get enough power to spin when the BIOS attempt to slow it down.

To me it sounds like when you turn on the PC, all fans run at 100% speed... then they slow down to a more reasonable speed (assuming they are PWM or 3-pin connected or whatever).

My i7-920/UD4P and even my mom's crappy Dell work this way.

I would disable all fan warnings in the BIOS to test, then start the system and see if it still makes the sound, if so then it is something else. If not then it is likely your CPU Fan warning, you can either leave that disabled or switch fans or move your CPU Fan to a different header and then disable CPU Fan fail warning
