Maybe we need to post a suggestion that this thread is rated SOHRFV: Sense Of Humor Recommended For Viewing.

re: ZM-MFC2 Fan Controller, the Newegg reviews weren't very good, some thought it might only be good as a turd controller, but it's a good unit overall.
    I have no regrets.
This thread is a hoot....haven't had this much fun in ages.
Brigs, did you buy a new hard drive to store all your new benchmarking, stress testing, and monitoring software? ;)
FYI, Kick really does use the weed block fabric for dust control and he provided a link to his favorite brand.
I really do use fabric softener sheets for my fans. Photos provided upon written request.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHA! LOL Kick and the weed block fabric is just classic, I saw the link to his favorite brand, thats awsome. Idk, maybe I'll just use fabric sheets like you Jim lol; Do you tape it to the bottom vents? And I wonder what Conners uses for his vent filters lol.

Ya I'm gonna get a WD Caviar Black 640GB HDD probly, idk I'll probly order it soon, cause I want to have Win XP pro like I have now on my 80GB drive, then put Win 7 on my new 640GB drive. I just dont know how to set that up so I can boot from one or the other drive into which windows I want to use, would I have to Raid? Or no? I'm just not sure

My unscientific experiment proved to me that this case is not a turd cause turds float. Well at least the ones I've seen. I then dried off the case but did not try to polis it before I put it back into service...
LMAO nice experiment man, I feel better about my purchase now

OK it got the best of me on the turd comment by a fellow friend poster. So I decided to put his thought to test in an unscientific experiment. I removed everything out of the accused case to prove once and for all is it a turd or not?

After meticulously removing all parts from the accused case I then filled a bath tub full of cool water, I didn't want to use warm/hot as I did not know how it would effect the experiment.

I tried the experiment in two ways, one with the side covers and two with out the side covers. But the experiment proved that there was not much difference either way.

After the tub was filled using the accused case with sides off, I squatted down while grunting the accused case dropped into the water with a plop and splash and quickly sank to the bottom. Humm no turd there I thought

Then I attached the side covers to the accused case and then squatted down grunting the accused case dropped the case into the water a plop and a splash ... Hey it was floating a little bit which got me to thinking is it, could it be? But after a few seconds sank to the bottom.

My unscientific experiment proved to me that this case is not a turd cause turds float. Well at least the ones I've seen. I then dried off the case but did not try to polish it before I put it back into service...

Lol How did that happen you quot me before my post officially appeared..lol

Anyhow you've got clear skies ahead with installing Windows 7. I assume it will be on a separate drive but no matter it will work easily either way. What will happen is when you boot you will be provided with a boot select screen to choose whether you want to boot into Xp or Windows 7. It should all happen automatically. If not there are tons of post out here to help you.

Also you won't be doing a raid set up in your case.

I was wondering the same thing, then I looked at his avatar.....bingo!!!......Brigs is all-knowing and a force to be reckoned with.....woe be unto he who calls his 922 a turd.

    WD Caviar Black hard drives:
I've had my 640 Black for 9 months, excellent performance, reasonably quiet, but it's too small. Tomorrow my new WD Black 1TB arrives from the egg along with a few other pieces of hardware. Cost per GB is about the same on the 640GB & 1TB Black models. CHeck out the numerous combo deals with the drives, there are lots of choices where you can save $10 - $20 or more.

Important Ordering note: Reading the Newegg reviews, they're still not doing a great packing job with HDDs. I waited until I had several larger items so that the HDD and any other fragile products will be somewhat better protected in a larger shipping box. When I bought my E2140 backup cpu, it was well packed, but they put it in the bottom of the box and then added the shipping peanuts on top of the cpu and around the other items in the box. Fortunately, there wasn't any damage.

Have you thought of running XP as a virtual machine within win7? There's gotta be tutorial on the web that tells you how to best set it up. Maybe it's safer to just use 2 hard drives just in case win7 has a software turd.
OK, I think we've had enough of this anal fixation, at least for a little while. Anyone have some polish.

I will order it along with other stuff like fans for my HAF and maybe... a fan controller... boy I am lucky I am single atm LOL My ex would have crucified me for ordering all the stuff I have in the past month lol!

OH crap, blank, I mean i see what you mean about his avatar now profJim.... woe unto me for the turd reference.

Performance-PC does a really good job of all that packing stuff but I am not sure that they have all you require and where you live would be a longer shipping time than new egg. For me new egg is good for a large order that I can't get from a quicker shipper to my location.

profJim I think we have a case of classic Ocidous happening before our very eyes. Just check the symptoms for your self.

    Conners,
I'll check out Performance-PC, many thanks.

Newegg service is stellar, especially when compared with the lack of service that seems to be everywhere else. I'd rather not deal with an rma due to lousy packing. Newegg's service has been excellent any time I've had any issues. They were always highly responsive and offered quick and reasonable solutions.

When my new hard drive arrives tomorrow, I'm going to give it a full low level format to verify that the drive is good to go. I've never done a full low level diagnostic, let alone on a 1TB drive. Hopefully the diagnostic test will complete before the 30 day return period rolls around. This will be my fourth WD drive from the egg and haven't had any problems with the first three drives.

I think that we're safe with our t*rd references, as we weren't the ones who started it.....we just couldn't let go of it. If Brigs doesn't love his 922, I'll be in deep longhorn doo-doo for being the first to suggest that he look into the CoolerMaster cases. As long as Brigs didn't forget to buy some TIM, we might even be able to get back to.....what's it called? Oh yah, overclocking.

You just had to add that last line while I was posting.
If you mean Acidosis, yah, it's been pickling my brain for quite a while ;)

LOL too funny u guys Ya I have ordered from the egg forever now and they have ALWAYS had excellent service and shipping and with RMA's, I just read a lot of the reviews for the HDD's and a lot of people where upset cause the wrapping on the HDD's for shipping wasnt too great and their drives would die in like a month or so, or where DOA, but the UPS torture treatment isnt too great either, so that dont help lol.

thanx for the link on Performance-PC Conners I'll check it out. Newegg is just down the way from me in L.A. about 9 hours away, so they usually ship it to portland then down to me, it's pretty quick!

And then... back to OCing this weekend we go yay

Ya, I'm interested to hear about your new 1TB drive and how the format goes. I have never heard of a "full low lvl format" or how to do that, does it really take weeks to do? What is your general method for getting a HDD ready for use if you where not to do the low lvl format? Just let windows format in setup and then run a disk check once windows is installed?

Sorry guys, I think I let my thread get out of control LMAO

I'll have it back "on topic" this weekend I promise lol (if I can stop laughing)
