How's your STPT (Super Turd Polished Transformer) case?

Here is my last IBT, was super happy, those GFlops and loops times get better and better!

I think that's the general idea behind overclocking, not sure.
Do some SuperPI Mod 1 & 8M too.

You can always stick it in a cupboard with side and rear ventilation when your eye balls start melting due to it's monstrosity.

I got 44.something GFlops on my Q8200 @ 3.4GHz, so a little more optimisation and/or vcore may be needed. Also remember that a Q8200 has only 4MB of L2 Cache, 1/3 that of a 9550, so you my be able to do better.

It is for 3.2GHz I believe, IBT lies about CPU frequency, it seems to be always the frequency for max multiplier.

I guess you could be right Chike. The version I used for my Q8200 was the most up to date at the time and was command line based. It identified my CPU frequency correctly. Other versions as you say may have a bug, I wouldn't put it past them. Even Windows 7 gets confused. Says I'm running at 3.8GHz when it's 3.9GHz (411*9.5)

LOL aye I can sure do that, but I cant stop admiring its monstrosity and grandeur!

Yes you are right Chike, I noticed that this morning, even in windows under "system" says it is 3.4Ghz, but I am at 3.2Ghz, guess it just goes for the max multiplier of the CPU and disregards what changes to the multi you have made. Wonder why this is lol, oh well, I'll have it at 3.4Ghz tonight and hopefully my GFlops are around 44 like Psycho's where with his Q8200, although I have a Q9550 so not sure what difference I will have... we shall see!

Hopefully you'll see a bit more speed for the same MHz value as your Quad has 12MB f L2 Cache rather than 4MB. I'd guess 44-46GFlops. After a certain amount, more cache has diminishing returns though.

That RocketFish case is nice! No need for a side intake hole as it has a Lian Li style internal duct fan. Drill three 120mm fan holes in the top for the rad and add some circular pattern fan grills (wide spaced grills) and you have a great water cooling case.

I'm building my parents a HTPC atm. .Got the case today, only cost 35, full aluminium. It's surprizing how good a plainer case can look. It's great to work on too, with the sliding mobo tray etc. Edges inside are a little sharp though. Cases like the HAF, Lian Li's etc have nice smooth edges generally. Cheaper cases can be a little "blood thirsty" if you know what I mean. All I need to finish the job is a cheap E5200, 2GB of RAM (it's only for video playback and net surfing so that's plenty) and a wireless network card and it's ready to go. They have a SOnly 32" Full HD TV to hook it up to... lucky buggers!

I have a front intake at the bottom (UV Blue Acrylic False floor), made into a turbine intake. Then I will have up top a 120MM intake in the bay area with a kama bay, and of course my rad mounted up top, still not sure about if I want to have that intake or not most likely though. Just hate the though of sucking in more dust, and yes I am thinking of a few ways to lessen that

Well guys, 3.4ghz is all fine and dandy stable, but... when I ran IBT max stress 4 threads, my core 0 temp was OK at just pegging 67c, but.. my CPU temp was dancing between 69-72c and pegged 73c a couple times
Not sure why my highest core 0 temp was only around 67c max but my CPU temp was way higher, I thought they would work more in conjunction together and be closer to the same.

So, I have a feeling I have hit my wall with this HS I have, just as Chike said, he got to about 3.4ghz with his CNPS8700 and looks like I'm about the same... poo

Here are the results for my IBT at 3.4ghz, not much of an improvement over 3.2ghz, thought maybe I would get 44-46 GFlops like Psycho got with his Q8200.

Not sure if its safe to run my computer at 3.4ghz or just go back to 3.2ghz and run it at that normally?

Interestingly, Prime95 on core 0 only got to 63c max....hmmm

Those temps are ok really, and you could actually go a bit warmer if you wanted as you never use your system at that full of a load anyway only during such tests. So you would never see those temps anyhow except when testing.

But yeah, sounds like 3.4-3.6ish may be all that cooler can handle with a quad, they do put out a lot more heat then a dual.
