IBT is VERY HOT, so yes if at 3.4hz you see 70's in IBT you are fine

I sometimes see 75-80+ when using IBT and I am not worried about it at all. Just keep in mind you never run your PC that hard anyway so temps will only be like that in testing.

I bet if you used Prime95 or Orthos instead your temps would be much lower at load than you see in IBT

Yep, when I run Prime95 Blend I am always in the 50's, might hit 60 once or twice, but usually 8c lower than IBT when I compare ^^

See what I mean, those are fine temps and even say to me you have plenty of room to go higher if you wish

    thanx for input Lsd ^^

Lsd, do you mean you see 75-80 with your cpu temp or core temps? Or both?

And if so, does that mean with my cpu temp hitting 72c and core 0 hitting 66c in IBT when running at 3.4ghz, I can safely run my processor OC'd at 3.4ghz, even though my cpu temp is a bit higher than core 0 in IBT?

I only went back 2 pages but what are you using to measure cpu temps and you mention cpu temp and core 0 temp a lot.
Certain programs like occt and speedfan you may have to "tell" the program which temp is which

there should be 5 cpu temperatures.

The cpu temp(overall) will be the one closest to the cpu temp reading u see in bios before you boot up.
The other 4 will be designated as either core temps 0-3 or 1-4 ie 4 core temps.

On my own machine cpu temp is the lowest at idle cores are between 37-44C

full load the cpu temp gets to approx the core 4 temp, maybe 65c .
Core 0 or core 1 depending how its marked goes to perhaps 75.Ive run IBT and temp goes to around 80,but it really does seem like a burn test.. ie how hot can u get your cpu and still have it working..
An IBT test doesnt necessarily mean a particular bios set will be stable for real use.

To be honest, I completely ignore the CPU temp reading and concentrate completely on core temp.

As both core sensors (DTS) and CPU diode temps vary in accuracy from CPU to CPU, it's entirely possible for CPU temp to be more OR less than core temps. Usually Diode temps are a little less, but having them higher isn't a real concern. If core temps are good, then the HSF is seated well etc. As your case has a cut out behind the CPU socket on the mobo tray, you could install a small fan, either 80mm or 92mm to blow on the back of the socket. As the CPU temp diode is on the CPU package rather than the physical silicon die, it could be influenced more by the temps of the PCB around the CPU socket etc. Not saying that's a definite case, but could be. Try temporarily fixing a fan there, then running IBT and see what happens.

I do the same as Lsd, I don't care how high IBT temps get. I've seen 83c on this CPU and still let it complete 3 test runs. The CPU isn't built to take this 24/7, but now and again, very briefly isn't exactly abuse. IBT is a good way to check how effective your cooling is, but no other program will ever heat your CPU up so much, ever. With the same ambient and settings that produced 83c in IBT, Prime never took the CPU over 65 and Gaming, never over 60, hovering at 55-57c (logged with Realtemp in the background).

Certain programs like occt and speedfan you may have to "tell" the program which temp is which
I use HWMonitor and RealTemp to monitor my temps, and yes I mention core 0 all the time cause that is the hottest out of the 4 cores all the time. On idle at 3.4ghz my cpu temp runs at 31c and core 0 (the hottest one) idles at 39c.

Basically I am talking about when I run IBT max stress 4 threads manually set and my system OC'd to 3.4ghz, my cpu temp max reads about 72c while at the same time my hottest core 0 is running at 66c all at 100% load in IBT. But, like I said, at idle temp, my cpu temp is like 9c cooler than my hottest core 0 temp is.

The only thing I was worried about in the whole temp thing is basically when I am using IBT, I was just making sure my processor is ok, since the cpu temp is reading hotter than my hottest core 0 temp.

Prime never took the CPU over 65 and Gaming, never over 60, hovering at 55-57c (logged with Realtemp in the background).
Same for me, Prime95 Blend cpu maxed out at 63c 100% load and when I game or run 3DMark06 my temps for cpu and core temps are all in the 50's.

I'll just try to stop obsessing about the dumb cpu temp and focus on my core temps when I run tests lol

    thanx for reply's guys

Mine also Brigs, CPU run sometimes ~10c hotter, but I ignore it and just go with the core temps... Can you say WOW I coud of had a V8!

LOL ya, sux big time now that I spent 60 bucks on this Zalman and I could have got a V8 for cheaper Oh well, at least I know that when I feel like it I can go and get any HS I want now lol.

Hey Conners what do you usually run your system at speed wise OC'd and what is your highest core temp in IBT?

Yeah that always a good feeling knowing you can polish that turd ne way you want.

I run 8.5x461 (3.91 GHz) all the time unless just testing higher FSB. In IBT my highest core temp is 61C and average about 45.5 GFlops.
