Hey guys, I was thinkin of tryin out my OC at 3.6ghz, but have run into a bit of a math problem... So, currently I have the 2.66D multi for my memory which with the 400fsb gives me my ~1066mhz memory, which is what it is rated for.

Now, I know I have hit a wall with my cpu multi at 8.5x and my fsb @400 will need to up my fsb to like 450 or so to keep going on my ladder, which is 3.6ghz for me next. But, here is the thing, I cant figure out a memory multi that combined with 450fsb will let my ram stay at 1066mhz speed but cpu OC'd to 3.6ghz. Whatever combo I come up with I either take the 2.00D strap and only run my ram at like 900mhz, which I really dont want to underclock it, but if I stay with the 2.66D strap and the 450fsb I get a way OC'd ram at 1197mhz which is way too high

So I guess I am basically asking, what combination, (i.e. fsb and memory multi), can I use so that I can OC to 3.6ghz but keep my ram relatively close to 1066mhz? Or what would you recommend be the best solution for my next OC to 3.6ghz?

    thanx guys

at 450 fsb I can run my ram with the 2.40b multi to run ram at 1080. After that you have to drop down the 2.00 (b or d) multi unless your ram can go further then 1080.

2.40B @ 433FSB if possible, will keep the memory at 1066, with s little luck it will hold up to 450MHz withe the memory OCed to 1080, otherwise use 2.00D or 2.00B whichever you can or give better results with some of the timings tightened.
Either way memory performance are going to increase, hope you make benchmarks to see the progress.

Agreed. Either 2.00 or 2.4 are the only options. In all honesty there'll be next to zero difference between 900 and 1066.

I can run my RAM fine at 1093. It's only a cheap set of XMS2, so I'm certain you'll have no problem with your GSkill PK. If not, go DDR-900.

I also don't think a multi of 8.5 has anything to do with not being able to over clock more. On the contrary, lowering multi and raising the FSB is the harder way to go. I'm 100% positive that if I can get a 486 FSB on a Q8200, then you can get much higher with a Q9550's max multi.

Well the only performance programs I am using to see progress is IBT and super Pi-mod, is there another one I should use to see my progress like one just for memory?

thanx again for the reply's guys, let me play around with the fsb and the memory multi and straps to see what I can come up with. I might start out with the 2.40B just to be frugal on my memory, but as in the past, it took me the D strap at 400+ fsb to get the computer to post properly, so we shall see!

Just a quick taste, here is the Pi-mod results for my 3.4ghz OC; 1M-32M calculations and they are quite an improvement over my stock clock of 2.83ghz~

Edit: Ignore the 512k test, that was from my original 2.83ghz.

Specific RAM benchmarks are next to worthless. Of course the numbers will increase if you increase RAM speed or tighten timings, but there's no way to tell how that "speed increase" will effect real programs.

Personally I don't see much point benchmarking RAM. Just set the lowest timings that are stable, with the highest frequency, and by default, that's the best RAM performance you can possibly get.

FSB speed also plays a big part. Not much point running DDR1066 on a 266 FSB, as the RAM 's going to be starved of data.

    I get 13.75 for 1M @ 3.8GHz whaaaaaaaa stupid program.

Try MaxxMEM² - PreView for memory benchamark, it doesn't always show the correct DDR rate but the results are fine. Eeverest has cache/memory benchmark but if it's a trial version some results are not shown.

Ah don't listen to those dweebs Brigs your doing fine. Just don't ever, ever run a XMP profile. I think Psycho has escaped his cell and lacks medication on his thoughts. Always negative comments.

You should be able to run 2.40B @ 450 FSB easy man so quit ***** footing around and go for it...

    I run approx. 11.7 seconds on 1M @3.91 GHz
