    LMFAO, you guys are hilarious

Cool, well I'll just keep comparing my GFlops and loop times in IBT and run Pi-mod to benchmark my stuff

Only thing that scares me is my friggin temps, (crosses fingers), hope they are good enough to keep 3.6ghz

-One question, is the 1M test the most beneficial and important test to look at when running Pi-mod or are they all significant?

-One more question lol, what speed do you guys run your ram when you are OC'd at what you are at?

Nice 11.7 run Conners! Hope I can come close lol!

    thanx again guys

I think Psycho has escaped his cell and lacks medication on his thoughts. Always negative comments.

Like I said, this thread or any other is NO PLACE to act up. I expressed my opinion. If you don't like it, that's fine. What you said was out of order. If you can't see that, then you've got issues.

A pointless round of "No, you are"... "No...YOU are" is going to achieve what exactly?

You're the one with the attitude, as so graciously illustrated in post 230. If you disagree with what someone says, make your own suggestion and move on, don't act like a degenerate. And don't you dare turn your immature remarks into an excuse to call ME immature.

If you want to go off on one, there's a PM button. That way I can tell you where to get off in private. Polluting someone else's thread with your attitude problem's just pathetic.

Talking Re: Noob here tryin to OC my Q9550 for first time :D

    Less filling!!
    ------------ Tastes great!!

    Whoops, wrong thread, try this:

    Higher memory speeds is best!!
------------------------------ Higher FSB is da king!!

    What's most important?
    Highest synthetic benchmark scores?
    Best gaming performance?
    Maximum application performance? Video/audio encoding?

You can have the best of both worlds by booting with different stable bios profiles. Conners found the change from 3.60GHz to 3.80GHz exhilarating. He'll be the first to admit that he's reached the point of diminishing returns as far as improved performance. He got hooked on the o/c bug and he probably won't stop until he's using extreme cooling to shove 1.666 volts through his cpu along VTT = 1.701 volts, and Cpu PLL = 1.99 volts with his near absolute zero cooling setup.

I agree with Psycho, with a properly tuned system, the memory performance near 900+ MHz will be indistinguishable from 1066 - 1150MHz with ddr2 memory. I'll gladly take an xx% gain in cpu speed rather than a similar increase in memory speeds. For me, the sweet spot is with FSB at 400 - 460MHz using the 2.0, 2.4 or 2.66 memory multipliers, as long has you're not hindered by a cpu with a low multiplier. Check out Lsdme's Ballistix ddr2 memory review where he shows memory throughput results at various speeds.

Take a look at Anandtech's Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P - P45 at its Finest (page 6) review, where they got some impressive results with their Q9550 and E8600 overclocks.

Did you check out their LLC findings in one of their motherboard reviews?

LMFAO, heya Jim, good to see you!

Thanx for reply's guys, sorry my thread must bring out the demons lol

Well so far what I have done is upped fsb to 425 and changed to 2.40B strap which brings my memory to 1020mhz which is cool with me. So, I started out at cpu multi 7.5x which was 3.18ghz~ and ran Memtest86+ with #2 and #5 tests and passed ok, then did 20mins of small FFT's Prime and passed then ran IBT and passed fine. then did same tests with the 425fsb and cpu multi changed to 8x, which is 3.4ghz, (what I was runnin before), and got the same loop times and GFlops basically in IBT, ran same tests again and all passed..

So then... I go to 8.5x cpu multi and I am sitting at 3.61ghz and memory still at 1020mhz, run the tests and I come to the IBT test and did max stress 4 threads set manually and the great thing was my GFlops increased almost by 2 and my loop times knocked off about 6 seconds... BUT... I was on the edge of my seat, cause when IBT was under 100% load my cpu temp was hitting 76c and my highest core 0 was staying at a good 66c.

So idk, 76c cpu temp kinda scared me and I dont know if I should pursue tuning and stabilizing my 3.61ghz OC, even though highest core 0 was only 66c... what do you guys think I should do? Am I on the right track with the settings I'm goin with? (I'm still idling at cpu 32c and core 0 39c)

Oh, and haven't had to touch vcore yet

Edit: Oh and Jim, Highest gaming performance is most important

keep going till your core temps hit 80c while using prime. Remember prime will stress your cpu further then you will on regular use and IBT/LinX will tress it 5x more then prime.

What thermal paste you using. After some testing I came up with these results just from switching from the supplied thermalright paste that is white creamy looking stuff to the Arctic Silver 5 and was quite supprised

Test done unlapped with supplied thermal paste.

As I recall, AS5 requires 200 hours of on/off cycles to fully cure and that temps can be up to 5 degrees (C) lower after numerous heating/cooling cycles. AS5 will not cure "quickly" in this time frame if you have your system running for long periods of time. I'm happy using their Ceramique compund. Several years ago, I downloaded several very helpful pdf documents from the AS5 website.

I've seen several forum posts where gaming performance gains with minimal to non-existent after you've obtained a high o/c level. I think Psycho posted that most gaming gains are statistically small at extreme overclocks and that higher memory speeds don't perform very differently from setups with lower memory speeds and tighter memory timings. From what I've read, most games respond with varying degrees of improvement.

I don't do any gaming, but I sometimes run various demos and watch some TV shows and movies from Hulu.com. My 7600GT is quite dated and I'm going to upgrade to a 4850 or 4870 video card in several months when I see how much lower the 48xx card prices are now that the 5xxx series have been released. Lsdme and Psycho like the Sparkle cards, but I don't want to spend $150 - $175 for a card that only has a one year warranty. The XFX cards have long warranty, but their cooling setups look to be marginally adequate. The Sparkle cards seem to be the best of the bunch, but it looks like only their higher end cards have multi-year warranties.

I'm overclocking a new cpu on my P35-DS3L mobo and should be near 3.90GHz or higher shortly. I'm going to o/c it as high as possible using the wimpy stock Intel heatsink/fan. Then I'll switch to my Freezer Pro 7 (rev 2) and see where the limit is. My goal is to reach 5.00GHz on air. Hey I can dream, can't I?

I need to rma my EP45-UD3P because it won't power up unless I jumper 2 of the 24-pin connections. The mobo lights up and the fans spin, but that's it....no way I can get it to even try to post. No boot loops....nada.
