Hey guys, quick question.. if I am running my previous 3.4ghz OC that works quite well, and I have not had to change any of the vcore, pll or vcc settings, they are all stock for that OC. Question is, I know Jim you said to up PLL to 1.57v and leave it there for life, which sounds great, but should I do that with my 3.4ghz OC when I am still running stock vcore voltage of 1.2500v? Or do you only up PLL when you up vcore, or does it not matter?

    thanx guys!

If your system is fully stable at 3.40GHz, leave Cpu PLL at its current default 1.50 volt setting. Whatsa matter? You gonna quit while your still ahead?
Cpu PLL has a limited safe adjustment range for our mobos, so it's basically a one time deal when your going for a very high o/c. Right now you're in the moderate o/c area for your processor, so increasing Cpu PLL is a non-issue for the time being.

If you wanna quit and let me win the race, that's OK by me, as I'm pushing 3.80GHz with my mystery cpu and trying to see if I can do it with the stock Intel heat/sink/fan.

Havnt been able to mess with computer much lately, have had the flu and felt like ****e, I'll get back in the race soon, as I am way too hooked to stop now!

This might make you feel better Brigs, an IBT with Windows 7 64 bit the only change.

Nice Conners thanx for the input on your IBT with win 7

Speaking of windows 7, I noticed that you have Home Premium 64bit which is the one I am going to get... question is, I was gonna get the OEM version with no tech support and such which is fine by me, but if I wanna upgrade my computer or if I have a piece of hardware that goes bad and needs replacing can I re-install and reformat windows? Like, can I use the disk again or is it just throw away after the first install? (which would be BS if thats the case)

And do you have the OEM version?

    thanx for input Conners

Don't quote me on this, but I thik an OEM disk is to be sold with a build and will only work on that computer. Nutter words you can't install it on a nutter computer.

The full retail version I think you can use on a nutter puter but only one putter @ a time.

There's lots of contradictory info regarding the allowed hardware changes when using the OEM version.

The following info is from Microsoft's Answers but is taken out of context.
Windows Product Activation checks eight different categories of hardware:
    • Display Adapter
    • SCSI Adapter
    • IDE Adapter
    • Network Adapter (including the MAC Address)
    • RAM Amount Range (e.g. 0-512 MB)
    • Processor Type and Serial Number
    • Hard Drive Device and Volume Serial Number
    • Optical Drive (e.g. CD-ROM)
It's not completely clear how rigorous these criteria are applied, but it appears that mobo and cpu upgrades require you to buy another OEM (or retail) license.

Well... I just went out and bought more stuff LOL So I went and bought Win 7 Home Premium; decided to get the retail version cause I don't want to get OEM and then find out that when I build a new system in the future that I cant use the OEM disk lol, its ok with me though cause this is the first time I have had to buy one of the windows OS's, all the other times I got Win 98 SE for free from my friend that worked at a computer store, then I got Win 2000 Pro (which I feel was the best windows made to date still lol), got that for free from same guy and computer store, then when I worked for an electronics store all employees got a free OEM version of XP pro when it came out if we completed this survey or something, so, all in all, I have been quite lucky with OS's, So I bought this one straight up LOL.

I never had Vista so all I know is up to XP, and I know I will have to learn where the heck everything is now cause I know they have probably changed a lot of stuff around since XP, but Win 7 looks great so thats why I wanted to get it and I really wanted a OS that had 64bit support.

Then I bought a new HDD... I finally upgraded from my 80HD thats been runnin strong for 3 years (never had a HDD over 80GB before, never had the need for mass storage lol); So I got a WD Caviar Blue 500GB which is way plenty for me (wow I'm in the 21st century finally!). It was only 59 bucks on sale at Staples cant beat that, and since I got Win 7 now, I wanted to put it on a whole separate drive. I'll still keep XP pro duel booted on my 80G HDD for a backup.

Sooo... I shall commence my OCing after I get all this new stuff installed, and try and figure out Win 7 (by then Jim is gonna have his mystery cpu at 5ghz and I will barely break 3.8ghz LOL

Hope my slew of benchmarking and testing programs work ok in Win 7....

Brigs, Brigs, Brigs, your hooked on OCing. Hey good deal on WIN 7, youcan install 32 bit or 64 bit right? I am finding 64 bit somewhat harder to get a stable OC for some reason.

    Anyway nice componets...

Ya it comes with both, but I am going to do the 64bit... hmmm hope I dont have too many problems with my current OC's remaining stable in my new install lol... oh well, I'll figure it out, I am just glad everything in my computer is now upgraded (basically new computer), except for the damn GPU, but, I dont need to atm, gonna wait for the GT300 nvidia cards to come out cause I want DX11, but then again, I do like the new radeon 5800 series
