did you keep ram timings on auto? try with 1.3000 qpi and 1.3000 cpu volt with 12 gb you might need slightly higher volts

Yes, I did as you instructed and left everything at whatever Optimized defaults sets them at, changing only what you told me to and noting any deviations from your settings (e.g. QPI voltage.) I will try your latest voltage suggestions when I get home from work. I've been saving your settings in a BIOS slot, so it'll be quick. Good thing they have that feature.

I don't effing believe this! I wrote up detailed notes and when I clicked to preview it, the forum gave me a token expired error and when I went back, the post was gone. I'm super tired and am turning in, but the teaser is this:

Prime95 has been burning for 30 minutes now and idle core temps are 38-36-38-36C according to Real Temp 3.30 and 77-74-73-71C under load. I'll be up in five hours and if it hasn't BSODed, we're on the right track.

Is there any way to get the BIOS settings without manually going in and writing them down? No utility to pull the data to a file?

As of 9 am when I left for work, Prime95 was still chugging along after 7 hours. I'm leaving it on until I get home.

What got eaten by the forum dog last night was that from sheer frustration I started changing a few things without noting them down, so I'm not sure what's happening. I put CPU volts to 1.300V, QPI at (IIRC) 1.315V, and RAM to 1.68V, but once again it eternally hanged before the POST screen even came up. Peering in at the POST diag display, I saw it read "C1"; checking the manual it said "C1h" was a memory check.

So I looked at the QPI settings and it appeared it was waaaaaaaaaay out of range, like it was trying to run my 1600 RAM and 3600 or some such. Huh. Here's where I'm sloppy, but I backed *something* down to set the RAM speed below 1600 because I couldn't hit 1600 straight on for some reason. According to the CPU-Z validation, my RAM is running at "720 MHz (2:8) @ 10-10-10-27" even though I left the timings at Auto.

I guess I need to fire up the laptop and laboriously note the settings into the BIOS template so y'all can see what's going on. Bleah. Anything I should look for in the process?

its the 180 bclk that wont let you hit 1600mhz of ram i think you can hit 1440mhz,but it might not run at that speed due to 12gb youll have to play with the timings and its best to write down what settings youve altered as if you manually set timings then go back to auto settings it can sometimes stay in the bios so you have to load otimized defaults and re-enter all your setting again,if it stable with prime 95 just slowly back down on cpu and qpi voltage till it crashes then go one click higher on each then thats it for ram try 10-10-10-30

I cut off Prine95 after 17-1/2 hours. Peak temp was 83C, but for the most part, they stayed as noted. Here are the settings that I've got now:

    Advanced DRAM Features:

It took me a while because the "template" here was randomly arranged. Yeesh. What's my next move from these numbers? I greatly appreciate the assistance you're all providing. This is complicated!

just try to lower cpu and qpi volts try 1.280000 on both and see if your stable if not raise one click on each till you are, also you can turn c1e off as it wont throttle cpu volts when idle above normal voltage setting

Are those other settings - RAM timing, QPI, UnCore - optimal for best performance? I was kind of randomly setting things last night and was frankly surprised that the damn thing booted and didn't blow up on Prime95.

uncore is 2x the memory multi that you use,qpi speed is ok...you could try 10-10-10-30 timings and lower cpu and qpi volts

Here are the latest changes, all from wazza300's suggestions:

CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E) ................... [Disabled]
DRAM Timing Selectable (SPD) .......... [Quick] 10-10-10-30
    CPU Vcore ...........1.25625V............1.28125V
    QPI/VTT Voltage .....1.175V.............1.275V

90 minutes of Prime95 w/o a hitch. Idle temps: ~38C; load temps: 77-73-73-71C. (What's with the 1st core running so hot?)

Anything else to do to speed things up or optimize settings? Thanks.
