1st core is always the hottest as all the data passes thru core one 1st then the second core 3rd ect, just try lowering cpu and qpi volts now one click or two clicks at a time, you could try 10-10-10-28 for ram are you at 1440mhz?

Tried bumping BCLK to 188 and dropping timings to 9-9-9-24 and Prime95 froze the system instantly. Dropped BLCK to 185 and put timings at 9-9-9-27 and it rebooted within a few minutes. I was tired, but I think I tried bumping up the CPU and QPI volts a notch on all of these. After a 3rd quick BSOD, I returned it to my last settings - the ones that ran 90 mins. - and ran P95 for five hours and it was humming along when I woke up.

Am I leaving substantially more performance on the table or should call it a day and enjoy a stable 3.78 GHz system with a ton of RAM that will eat just about any game or app I can throw at it alive? Are these temperatures acceptable or is louder, more aggressive cooling needed? Compared to some systems I'm seeing around, I feel as if I should be getting even more speed out of the RAM and OC, but I'm beyond the phase of putting 12 fans in a case and dealing with the roar to get some fractional bump.

its up to you 12gb ram with loose timings is better than 6gb with tight timings, you could easily clock to 4.2ghz with 6gb or ram but id say 3.8 is your limit with 12gb and you wont notice any difference really from 4.2 to 3.8ghz,did you try 10-10-10-28 timings?also try enabling c1e and set cpu volts on normal, leave everything else as it is n see if you can run stable...these settings will make you run cooler at idle n few degrees c cooler load if u can run,if not change back to old ones get this its good program to tell you about your system and has good ram benchmarking programs http://www.lavalys.com:8081/beta/eve...oa7sjd0lyk.zip

I ran some Everest benchmarks and the results floored me (mine in bold):

    Memory Read:
    Core i7 920 3780 MHz Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 X58 Triple DDR3-1440 10-10-10-30 CR2 14356 MB/s

    Core i7 Extreme 965 3333 MHz Asus P6T Deluxe X58 Triple DDR3-1333 9-9-9-24 CR1 13937 MB/s

    Memory Write:
    Core i7 920 3780 MHz Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 X58 Triple DDR3-1440 10-10-10-30 CR2 12976 MB/s
    Core i7 Extreme 965 3333 MHz Asus P6T Deluxe X58 Triple DDR3-1333 9-9-9-24 CR1 12065 MB/s

    Memory Copy:
    Core i7 920 3780 MHz Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 X58 Triple DDR3-1440 10-10-10-30 CR2 18654 MB/s
    Core i7 Extreme 965 3333 MHz Asus P6T Deluxe X58 Triple DDR3-1333 9-9-9-24 CR1 14894 MB/s

It only fell out of the top spot when 8x and 12x Xeons and Opterons were in the mix, though some older AMD 64s were faster on latency tests. In real-world use, I just joined a pair of 700 MB AVI files with VirtualDub and what took (what I thought was an OK) 3-4 minutes on my old rig (3800 X2 w/2GB RAM) took 40 seconds here! Using AVI_ReComp to burn subtitles took 90 minutes on the old box and 20 mins now. Yowza!!!

I'll try nibbling around tweaking this a bit more and will post results or questions, but for now I have to say I'm darn happy with how things have worked out and I greatly appreciate all the help you gentlemen (assuming you're all dudes; if anyone's a lady, my apologies) have provided. Sure, I wish I was at 4 GHz, but 42% OC with benches faster than the fastest i7 at 1/5th the cost is nothing to complain about.

Virtual beverages all around! Cheers! <table style="width: 50px; height: 11px;"><tbody><tr><td>
