    There's no such thing as a QZ9750. The two |C2QE are 9770 and 9775. Both are native 400 FSB CPU's. Note that the QX9775 is designed to be used as part of a pair in an Intel Skulltrail board, and as such may not be correctly identified in some consumer boards. The socket used for the 9775 is LGA 771.

    The only 45nm QX |CPU to end with a "50" is the QX9650, which is a 333 FSB CPU.

    I think it is his DMI on the old drive from the gateway he is using to piece this new system together is not being seen by his new board. I would bet he's trying to use that drive without a reinstall of the OS.

    If he reinstalls the OS it will work fine. But, he might have to call MS to get that crazy long list of numbers to mate it if he's trying to use the OS from the gateway.

    Not sure about the CPU he gave, maybe its a knock off??

    There's definitely no QX9750 listed on any Intel site.

    QX9650 = Unlocked multi on a 333 FSB, Socket 775
    QX9770 = Unlocked multi on a 400 FSB, Socket 775
    QX9775 = Unlocked multi on a 400 FSB, Socket 771, Skulltrail.

    If using a Gateway OEM version of windows that's tied to the original boards BIOS, unfortunately there's no way to re-use it. This version of Windows along with the key code are registered via hardware checks with a portion of the BIOS. I encountered this with a version of Vista that came with this PC when I was using a Packard Bell board. MS's answer was that to registration isn't possible as one is no longer using the original equipment that justifies the Original Equipment Manufacturer license. Annoying, but there's no way around it. The BIOS emulator I tried to install didn't work either, though others may have different results.

    A screen shot of CPU-Z would help ID the exact CPU used. I highly doubt it's as the OP said an "unreleased" CPU. There ave been such chips, but they're like rocking horse sh1t. They'd also all be marked "ES" or Engineering Sample. II|R there was a plan to make a 45nm Dual Core Extreme Edition CPU, but all the planned QX range went ahead into production, with the rarest of them being the socket 771 QX9775. They were a rip off price and targeted at hardcore enthusiasts, heavy use workstations and server markets.

    If it does indeed exist I'd put money on it being a cancelled CPU. If the CPU-Z screenshot is to be believed, it's an E0 revision. All other QX 45nm have been C0/C1.

    If that's the case, then minor issues may be experienced on any motherboard, from cosmetic discrepencies to performance problems, who knows. As the CPU isn't in the supported CPU list, Gigabyte won't offer any tech support. It does seem however that the board is coping OK with the processor so far.
