OMG!!! It's still doing it! I got about 3/20 work on cold boot this time. Maybe the supplier just got lucky? This is doing my head in!

I tested it DVI-DVI in monitor, DVI-HDMI in TV, HDMI-HDMI in TV - same problem!

Only thing different now is the power cable. I'm scrambling for another one. Tested in multiple power outlets too.

i would just rma your graphic card, then see where you stand,i dont think its monitor or it would happen with onboard graphics, you do get faulty units even when new/sealed i rma'd a new graphic card when it keep crashing with different coloured screens left on the monitor, replaced it with another same make/model and its been flawless,im not saying 100% its your graphic card thats faulty but its a good place to start, then you can move on to other things if it still does it with a new one

I think that if other cards work and the problem happen in both PCIe slots it is either the card or compatibility issue.

    RMA'd!

In store now. I've booted the new card 7x now without fail. Not out of the woods til I get home.

Gotta say, very good customer service. The guys have been cool - except for giving me a POS card to begin with.

Think I may celebrate with an upgrade from XP to 7.....what ya reckon?

Sorry for wasting your time guys - but I'd literally put a dozen hours into it before I posted here.

    The 6850 wasn't mounted properly.

The card being as wide as it is rendered the black clips on the case useless. I didn't think of that as the card physically *clicked* when I put it in the mb. The dude at the shop put a screw in it, booted it, perfect.

I feel like such a retard. 20hrs wasted! Learnt heaps of stuff though. I may aswell OC it now! =)

Who wants to punch me in the face? Take a number & get in line =)

Crikey, that's a late switch! I thought XP was old. I wouldn't touch Vista with a 20 foot pole! Interested to see how it runs. I got Pro for the XP functionality - hopefully I can use all my video & music editing software.

I figure with the new 6850 & my RAM expanding finally to 4Gb that'll do me for now. No SSD...just a 320Gb 7200rpm Sata2 for me. Considering my last system had a 30Gb partition on a full 640Gb HDD I think I'm on a win!
