    Default G.Skill 2x2GB 1066Mhz (F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK) Finally working at 1066 STABLE!

Ok, so, since I havn't been able to OC my processor the past few days cause I'm still looking for a case, I decided to try and fix my memory problem. As I posted before, I got it working at 800Mhz but not 1066 stable; But now, after a ton of tweaking trying different settings and running tests over and over I found out what it needs to work at the rated 1066Mhz "stable"

For those of you that have the same RAM (see my sig) and MB, (GA-EP45-UD3P rev1.6 BIOS FB), as me, here is what I did to get it running and running stable!

I have run Memtest86+ for 9 hours and 12 passes with 0 errors.
I have run IBT for 20 passes maximum stress, set 4 threads manually and passed great, my timing loops where better than before at 800Mhz and my GFlops where still great at 36.
I then ran Prime95 Blend test for 25 hours solid and 0 errors.

If you see anywhere in my BIOS I may be able to improve on my memory performance in the settings I have made, please let me know!

So here is my BIOS template of changes I made, Note: I am not OCing either~

Glad to hear you got your ram working at its rated speed . Now comes the trick in getting the cpu over clocked and keeping the ram up to speed once you get your case sorted out.

    Brigs,
    Thanks for sharing your information.
Don't forget to save your current settings as a saved bios profile.

I've seen a few cases where MCH Core = 1.05 was required, but this was usually with 2x2GB of memory, not 4x2GB.

When you start to overclock, setting Driving Strength = OC-1200 might help with stability in you're using memory speeds at 1000MHz or higher. This isn't a performance tweak, rather is often helps with stability at higher memory speeds.

There are some additional memory tweaks that will possibly make a small improvement in memory performance, but I would leave well enough alone for now.

note: You can edit your bios post to clean it up by pressing the EDIT button at the end of the post.

Ya I have the 2x2 GB memory pack; Guess thats why the MCH core at 1.05v finally did the trick for me

I did definitely save my current settings to cmos, you can count on that^^

I'll keep in mind upping the driving strength to 1200Mhz when OCing, just gotta get my dang case now so I can start OCing again lol.

One question- when I look at the air flow rating of a fan and it give the rating of CFM like 133 or 27 or 93, what does that rating mean, and is higher number better, but higher db rating? I am just asking cause when I get my new case it will have a couple of 120mm fans and I want to order good quality fans for it, not the ones that come with it; Was thinking the Scythe Ultra Kaze or S-Flex, any suggestions on fans?

    thanx guys ^^

Edit: I tried to edit my post and clean up my BIOS post but even though I save it when it looks correct, the margins get all off and makes sentences appear on the wrong lines and such, not sure why I cant get all the sentence lines to line up ><

CFM = cubic feet per minute of airflow. Sometimes you'll see an airflow rating using inches/mm/cm of mercury. It's hard to compare these unless you have a (freeware) conversion program.

Higher cfm is generally better, but usually means higher noise levels. Don't even get me started of dB versus sones for noise measurement.
Some fans have a "static pressure" spec which appears to be most meaningful when you're evaluating cpu heat-sink fans.

The highest quality fans will have S-FDB (or similar) bearings instead of the cheaper sleeve or ball bearing fans. The highest quality fans are rated for 150K hours or longer, while cheaper fans are rated at only 30K - 50K hours.

The warranty with the highest quality fans is 5 - 6 years.
Check out the Arctic Cooling fans in the EP45-UD3R Question Fans connection thread, they look promising.
**edit** I'm partial to Scythe S-Flex and Noctua fans.

re post editing: if it ain't fixed, don't broke it

I did a quick forum search using:
    mch core 1.05
and there are threads where 1.05 volts was required for stable operation using 2x2GB of ram. This appears to be the exception, not the rule. There was at least one thread where 1.05 was needed with DDR3 memory. Go figure....

Interesting. You have the same CPU and RAM (i think) as me. Im interested in any overclock you may do in the future on your CPU. Im having trouble with mine and Im not really sure whats causing it.
